| Says in todays m.e.n that millward is in contention for the assistant job at salford? What would everyone's views be if he landed the job?

| I'm not sure why Millward would want to play second fiddle to McRae unless it's to help oust him following the inevitable arguments that would ensue and that’s going to be no good for the club, they both have different styles and methods and I would anticipate an almighty clash of personalities, besides I personally don't want either of them.

Shaun McRae's contract finishes next year, Ian Millward could be looking to get a foot in the door?

| It would be a good move for me, that way he can take over from mcrae on 12 months time, and millward IS very very close pals with simms . The one position we do need to replace is the conditioning coach as haigh is bobbins and attitude stinks,

| It it a step forward to replace one coach who won Superleague with a very good team that didn't need much coaching but managed to win the National League, with another coach who won Superleage with a team that didn't need coaching but couldn't come close to winning the National League?

| Big mates with Steve Simms isn't he??
I can see a power-struggle if this comes about with McRae leaving/being forced out. Not too bad a thing IMO.

| Sounds Like a ' [i=#000080Fait Accompli[/i to me .
If I remember McRae's exit at South Sydney it was done by bringing in a new coach , initially under him, then relieving him of the coaching duties and shuffling him upstairs until he got the message .
far be it for me suggest deja vu here..

Difference being Salford had a much stronger squad in 2008 than Leigh in 2010!
A coach can only take a team so far, the biggest factor is finances and the quality of players/squad a team can afford. Unfortunately it's not always a level playing field!
Could Fergie manage Wigan Athletic to win the Champions League?

| I'd think that if Millward Gets the job it is as a precursor to him getting the full job come the end of next season. As I was moving I only listened to the game last weekend and afterwards he did say that he only had one more year coaching at Salford and you got the impression that he wouldn't even try to get rehired.
I would think the one person who'd job would also be at risk would be Mal's as I'd think that Millward would would at some point bring in Robbie Paul as his #2 and don't think there is/was any love lost between Alker and Paul.
I very much hope that Millward doesn't get the job as infighting for a year would be a bad thing for me and think we need to be aiming much higher when we are looking for our next coach.

NO!! Lets not go mad, the rugby genius is working minor miricles producing gareth owens The rugby genius has already got the top job @ the club because having good youth means you have a good future unless he wants to be a superleague coach and he states that why change the only thing that works @ the club

| I can't see it happening but if it did I'd remain open minded. Both have proved they can win things with quality players. If you consider we will have what looks a much better squad next year, having two experienced coaches around could possibly help the team as long as they are both capable of working together.
Lets not forget the club have been one light in the backroom staff dept since Scott Naylor went. By appointing two new extra coaches surely this can only benefit the individual players and the team as a whole. (More coaching time for specific smaller group training sessions, etc?)

Who would you choose then? i know Alan is enjoying his role that he is doing, as he mentioned this at a forever reds meeting. i think that if an oppertunity arose that a position would be available then i would prefer Hunty rather than Millward. He only won things with Saints as like Mcrae they were a great side that didnt need much coaching. Either you or i could have coached them. What has Millward done since?

You're talking out of your backside. Both McRae and Millward are extremely dedicated coaches. Millward is also very passionate about his teams. Whatever their qualities as coaches may be - and we were happy with both of them, but especially loved Millward - to question their commitment is to truly talk out of your backside.

Have you seen McRae's body language? I'm not saying he doesn't care, but his body language alone suggests this isn't the same guy that managed Saints and Hull. He's lost definitely lost his (sorry about the terminology) mojo. The lack of confidence he has in himself is reflected in his players. Every season he's been in charge, the team has looked woefully short on confidence.
What's Millward got left in the tank?
Daniel Anderson is highly regarded as being a good coach and Penrith............. let me stop there. coach saints, possibly another Super league team, end up back in OZ, bomb out and come back to the UK without having a great deal of success. Anyone else see the similarities.
Putrill would probably be a better option. Not been saddled with the responsibility of head coach roles, learnt his trade under coaches who know how to play the game and has been involved with the hands on day-to-day stuff.

Maybe that's because the fans all berate him for having to coach a team that isn't good enough to play in superleague but he hasn't been able to change that due to financial restrictions over which he has no control. Give him some meat and he'll make a tasty pie. Give him gristle and all you'll get is a sick feeling in your stomach.
Oh, and Daniel Anderson coached the New Zealand team to a series win prior to coming to St Helens. He's now with the Eels and during the first season he got them up the table and to the Grand Final. All the Saints players say he is the best man manager they've ever worked for and he got things out of our lads that Potter would never even come close to getting.

The rugby genius had the opportunity all last season as we ran one light after naylors departure to say "i want to be an assistant coach to a superleague side" he didnt he is doing a fantastic job building a succesful youth system somthing which us @ salford will rely on heavily in the short medium and long term future.
We'll have Alker / Talau as assistant, Millward as another assistant and mcrae as the top boy it kind of mirrors the succesful set up @ celtic this season of Harris, sharp and noble for now.
People moan that mcrae and millward can only coach good players, we havnt signed any duffers yet, we've got rid of a few mind so imo the quality of player in our squad has gone up
Like saintfan said give mcrae and millward some meat and they will make a pie its the 1st time in his rein @ salford he's been given a good size of quality meat he cant moan anymore about making do with what he has and not having the money its do or die this season for mcrae if he fails millward takes over and regiggs his staff, alker / talau will have 12 month to see if they are cut out for the job and are binned and replaced if they ant with some one who can
If the rugby genius marched into simms office said "steve, ive taken this youth system as far as i can go i want a shot @ the big time make me assistant coach or im off" id give him the job there and then.
After 6 years of hard graft behind the behind the scenes the club are begining to see the fruits of the rugby geniuses labour, if you ask him i recon he'll see his achievements as just the begining and if he continues to get the investment he's had from the club and forever reds i recon in 3-5 years we'll probably have half a team full of "alans lads" which can only be a good thing.
