| I think some people have short memories - whilst Im not sayin our coach is doing well at the moment, we used to regularly get stuffed by 50 or 60 in the super league days under john harvey, andy greg, even karl harrison. At least thats not happened too often recently
I dont know why some people expect us to win the league with the the smallest playing budget in the league.
Also, I heard so many people on the stands last night , saying the players were not fit to wear the shirt etc etc......maybe they are trying 100%, but are just not good enough? In which case.......no matter how hard we try....we battling a losing cause...and bringing in a new coach would not help if the players just dont have the quality

I'd actually agree with most of that. Although I do feel we'd be better off without Mr McRae. An expensive commodity with the maximum potential of this group of players who I'm sure are genuinely trying hard. With the best will in the world, you can't turn a donkey into a thoroughbred. However, he did sign them and with that in mind, he loses my vote. It appears that we are playing 'percentage' rugby league. A style of play that requires strong and dominant forwards. Well, there lies the problem. WE DON'T HAVE STRONG AND DOMINANT FORWARDS. We regulary struggle to make yards when in our own half, (Around 25m over 5 tackles would be my estimation) and thus are reliant on long kicks up field from Dan Holdsworth. And another frailty of our style of play is the lack of line speed in defence. We appear to be a fraction of a second slower at moving up at the opposition play the ball although this may be a result of being consumately out-muscled in most collisions.
So, maybe it's a case of players struggling to match the tactical style of the coach who with a limited budget, recruited poorly for the style of play he wanted.
As for the morons, who I have regularly berated of late, I put it to them that it is they who do not deserve to wear the shirt. My word I wish they'd increase the practice of sterilisation on the NHS.
So, as for Shaun McRae being the "worst" coach we've had? Well, most probably not but certainly not the required standard for the players at his disposal... Oh how hard it must be to be a head coach on a limited budget.

Who exactly are our thoroughbreds? Ok, Dan Holdsworth. But I can't say that he's been made worse over the last 5 weeks.

That maybe so. But are they thoroughbreds? Ratchford is certainly very good but is being restricted by our style of play. He would certainly benefit from a change in tactics.
Adamson kinda fits into McRae's style with a very strong work ethic and good defence. He is however, somewhat lacking in attacking prowess for me. A solid platform player that lacks the x factor in attack thus for me, not a thoroughbred but a very good percentage player.
I just believe the boo boys (those that boo the players) expect a little too much of many of the players.

| I don't boo the players, only the coach, he is clueless, the Leeds win left him speechless, and whatever happens at halftime just shows that he is a poor coach out of his depth in Super League in the year 2010.
I also fear that Cashmere does not want to play for him, his injury gets worse each week.

| Last year we had size in Stapo and he hasn't been replaced adequately. Cashmere has been missing injured and without these two we seem really 'lightweight'
Rutgerson / Highto / Coley / Haggi..........these guys have never been adequately replaced for me.
Dunemann was head and shoulders above anything we've seen since
Bottom Line is, we're out muscled every week, half backs are average at best and our backline is woefull (And has been for two years), and we've a Head Coach no-one else would touch with a barge pole.
Now tell me again why are we unsuccessful and rock bottom? We've recruited exciting players ,Team morale is fantastic, the players are 'training the house down', we've a new stadium on the way, we're a shoe in for a franchise spot.
THE BOARD AND COACHING STAFF ARE SERIOUSLY DELUDED!!!!!!!!

Pev, not suggesting that you do boo the players. I'd expect anything but that of you.
As for your points re Cashmere and half-time routine. Well, who knows. You could be right.

Amen to all this RR. However, half backs tend to look average on the back of a dominated pack. The bacline will often suffer if the half backs are average. Domino effect... (Although I thought Henry went well last night.)

Cashmere, Leuluei, Sidlow and Boyle are all big units, they just don't seem to hit the ball with enough pace. Not wanting to keep laying the blame on Alker, but the speed of our play ball at the moment is killing our go forward. If you put Cashmere in either the Wigan/Warrington sides, with the speed of their play, he would look like the potential Representitive footballer they say he is down under.
Infact if you put the majority of our team in anyother super league side they would look like the quality players they are. The older members have proven themselves, and the likes of Adamson, Ratchford and Sidlow are all young lads, potentially, with careers ahead of them. Whatever is going on at the moment could end up ruining these players livelihoods.
Our wingers haven't showered themselves in glory, but you can't complain with Talau and Henry in the centres, even Dunneman would look like a donkey in the current team.
There is obviously a collection of problems. From a fans perspective I love the willows, but it can't be much fun for 17 6ft plus solidly built guys in those changing rooms. This is where the new ground comes into play. Better facilities will make happier players and happy players will play better.
Maybe we need to say a big thank you to Manchester City Council, John Prescott and anybody else who tried prevent the new ground!!!!!!

| Wish McRae was the worst coach we'd ever had.
We were much worse under Harvey, considerably worse under McCormack and just as bad under Harrison in his final season.

| Yes we were bad under Harvey, mcormack was the youngest ever superleague coach, lasted about 10 months and although Karl Harrison did a great job behind the scenes at the club, and we did slowly improve between 03 - 06 we actually only had 1 good period whilst playing under him from February '06 to April '06 after that it went pear shaped and we were actually looking to manage to cling onto a playoff spot!
everyone thinks because we got in the playoffs that one year we were this awesome side with a great coach, but it just wasnt the case... we started that year very very well and that is what ultimatly gave us our playoff berth.
Maybe our downfall with mcrae was the size of the contract he was given, but it was clear that mcrae was the one the salford board wanted and therefore he probably said, give me a four and a half year contract and i am yours...
there has been far worse salford performances under all of our coaches including shaun mcrae, and although he may very well be getting the preperation/tactics wrong, its not him that makes all them knock ons, wrong decisions, and runs/passes the ball like a headless chicken for 80minutes

Pretty sure we lost a lot of games the 2nd half of that season by less than 6 points. Can't remember us playing much worse than earlier in the season we just didn't manage to get over the line in some of the games.

| Its got to be the volvo b10 they used about 5-6 years ago. the seats smelt musty and the suspension was buggered and there was a crack on the window on the middle right that let a draught in.

Mr Hillbilly provides the lyrics to the Fall`s latest offering.
John Harvey gets my vote for this topic.
