| I remember the Caravan and the Cubby hole on the precinct, but neaither was eye catching. To have this sort of retail it needs to have good merchandising sold by people who care.
There was a post by Chris before where he mentioned the shop becoming a place to hang out when he ran it. That's what it should be, if we had room it should have an aread for fans, maybe a coffee bar etc.
I actually think that the trafford centre, Meadowhall Sheffield and Metro Centre gateshead should be a target for the RFL to market the game.
These shops could sell all the shirts including national ones, they could show where the game is played at all levels. Tickets and promotions, players etc could be used. get Sky involved, maybe you can be the video ref stuff. Even a Vox for feedback.
I know too much time on my hands.

Those were the glory days, dont have the time to do it these days unfortunatly
I think a shop in Salford precinct would be a great idea, if the rents too expensive how about eccles, monton, walkden or the height, perhaps the club should trial it perhaps for 12 mths see if we got regular custom from people and would give us a tool to market the club with.
If it doesnt work ditch it least they can say they tried it and they didnt get enough custom

| To those suggesting taking space in The Trafford Centre - I suggest you take a look at the costs:
Rent £235,000 (assuming you are willing to sign up for a 15 year lease!!!)
Service Charge £15,400 PLUS 7.5% Management Charge
Rates Payable £84,000
So we'd need to sell a Myler a year to keep that going!!

| how about cleaning up around the willows.
if you come from the coach park you have to hurdle what looks and smells like a pond of toilet water, and on the way out the hurdleing has to be done in the dark. the alleys down eather side of the pitch are full of broken bottles or dog poo, a good sweep befor each game would do wonders for the place. I noticed Wakefields grond is not too different to ours with the only exeption being that it looks clean and a little cared for which can only be good for attracting people. just a thought that would be cheap and effective!

" Salford City Reds have announced they are to open a new shop in the trafford centre, "its going to be great, Salford city reds are doing their bit to beat the recession" Said John Wilkinson salford chairman.
In other news Salford city reds have announced that they will NOT be using the 300k to invest in the squad and there will be no further transfers, Steve Simms said " We have had a look round but we feel the money is better spent elswhere "
Im sure a shop in Monton,Eccles,Walken or the Height wouldnt cost anywhere near that.

| the problem with the advertising is volume and consistency. i have students working for me from salford uni and they haven't heard about the club and their supposed to be a partner? our main sponsors are the Trafford centre you wouldn't know when you go there.
there simply not doing the basics anywhere near well enough and thats way before you start looking at who your booking for half time.

Monton, The height and Walkden would not generate much interest. Monton is full of Curry houses and nail Bars.
I was suggesting the Trafford Centre did a deal (i.e pay little or nothing) the shops are empty. The money should not be all or nothing, this wouldn't count in the cap, and the RFL could be partners in it (bear most of the cost)

The trafford centre isnt going to happen, money is everything and if the RFL would take most of the cost they would want to have a controlling say ie it would become a Rugby league shop not a Salford city reds shop which would benefit the sport but not us as the new "fans" would just pick a winning team, we need a shop where people go, You would get passing trade in all of the areas at present people go to the club shop make a special effort to get there as its the club shop and nothing else on a non match day.
Stick a shop/cafe bar in a town centre like walken or Eccles and you'll get people popping in as its easier access, the Height would be a contender, near a college/schools, students might get interested at dinner time if we can get a tie up with them with student offers somewhere to go friday night, its on a main road lots of cars driving past.
It might be a lot of money to rent a shop there perhaps for 12 months to see if it takes off, i did have a chat with the new guy at the start of the season he wanted to know where the "Centre" of salford was where everyone goes, its a good question as we dont have one imo.

Whatever it cost in Monton etc... it wouldn't matter cos no one would go to it. It's a big enough pain having to go to the club shop for stuff it'd be even worse somewhere else where you have to find parking etc..

What I said was - that visitors are put off be the reputation of the area round The Willows - and that a shiny new stadium in a new development will improve the perception - no way was I implying anything about any area being better or worse - but if any areas are ever to improve then there has to be investment

I agree with all of the above, it just gets me when people have a go at the Weaste area when there are lots of other areas IN Salford that would be very hard pushed to poke a stick at Weaste...

| They could do something like spend 50pounds in any Trafford Centre shop and get a coupon good for two free tickets, or just take your receipt to the Willows and use that to get in.
I'm sure they could get one of those cart things that go in the middle of the aisle that usually sell hairclips & jellybeans, I saw Sky TV with a stand there last time I was in signing people up.

Whittards went bust earlier this year due to the really daft prices they charge, so I assume that the new owners Buisness plan is to downsize and maximise the increasing usage of the Lowry centre as more firms in the media relocate there. I prefer a packet of tea bags from Aldi, when its in the pot it all tastes the same anyway.
