| I don't think we could attact a crowd of 8,000 down at the Willows even if we had 'TAKE THAT' out on the paddock....
But joking apart 'wardleyred' your spot on we need to get more bums on seats at our games...Now how the club are going to do this is anybody's guess...

Yes and with being in Super League I was expecting decent attendances from away fans, but sadly away fans have not been turning up for one reason or another this season.
In my opinion we've had it playing at the Willows and hopefully when we do move to Barton one day we will attract a lot of new fans and of course all of our stay away fans hopefully will return.

Clearly "The Willows Factor" does affect a lot of away fans - the stories (true or not!) about car vandals and local scrotes does put a lot of visitors off - so a move to Barton should definitely improve on that.
However - I do wonder about your statement "...we will attract a lot of new fans..." - is there really an untapped pool of folk willing to pay out good money to watch RL? Certainly if we start to put in better performances and challenge for the play offs, challenge cup etc then the "stay-away fans" may well come back, but I think the existence of the new audience is a bit of a myth unless the RFL (not just Salford) does something extraodinary & innovative.
All clubs need (not just Salford), I think, to be getting their average attendances up towards the 10,000 mark to be able to sustain a viable business model - how to do that without bringing in the hooligan tendancy (as in football) will be a massive challenge.
One interesting fact - Manchester Storm hold the record for the largest ice hockey attendance at a UK league game, set on February 23 1997, when 17,245 people watched a match against Sheffield Steelers. Now there's a challenge - Match That !!!

The storm were quite succesful tho during that time tho wernt they? And im sure sheffield were their main rivals Even i went to watch a few games to see if anything we could nick and use at salford.
I think its a mixture of things are needed to increase our attendances:
1) win more games home and away - might sound obvious but results matter a lot of people look at our results, i have a mate who doesnt come to salford but looks for the result and texts me after match, we win more matches we'd be further up the table so that fair weather / challenge cup fan might see us in or around a playoff place and think ''oh ill go'' regardless how entertaining we are.
2) become a bit more media savvy, watched the superleague show today and they had a part called king of the kickers why wernt we there? It didnt have to be rachford or smith or wilshire could have been a random youth team player but us being there would have given us a spotlight
i remember this also happening regarding our mascott at the superleague launch we had no represtation.
3) In the ground we are moving forward, we can go in the club before during and after the match and can order any drink you want to take outside, might sound reaily mad but its near impossible to get any alcholic beverage which isnt beer or bitter in most superleague grounds.
4) Being positive in our media stories, i cant wait to hear who we have signed next season normally happens november or december but its going to happen during the season which is great.
For next season when the new kit is out before christmas a picture in the men, the advertiser and the league express preferbly being worn by our new sighnings would be nice.
5) Us fans help to promote the club even little things like fixture lists in our local pubs, trams or trains we travel on each day, taxis posters in your window or newsagents we live amongs the people we are talking about lets try and get their attention.

| We got higher crowds last season due to the Golden Angel.
We have tried any number of things to get even the locals in but they aren't interested. I think we would have more luck with the Uni students.
Why not have a mini season ticket of some random number of vouchers, so they can attend during term time.

| Here's a great Idea
Lets try advertising next year !!
Last time we were in super league there were Boards up out side the Hope advertising a Game on flyers on lamposts letting people know there was a game on. Since then the last two years have had nothing.
At times you wouldnt even know theres a game on
. And what has happened to the school scheme ? I thought that was a good idea to get them interested in rugby and particulr salford at a young age(even if they were annoying with there hooters blowing every 5 mins)
i think there is a hell of alot more that can be done for next year and I hope that the people responsible get off there ass and do something about it

| The main problem with marketing that salford have to face is that football man utd down the road and manchester city this is what makes marketing salford a difficult process and there is no easy way to market any better than they have done its just not a rugby town anymore which is a pitty as rugby league is a great idea. I think they might attend if things where going great on the field it dont help when your not winning games.

| City were still getting the crowds though when the were down to the 3rd tier of football
Yes results do help but but is not fully the reason behind people turning up or not
p.s we havent had to compete with the football for the last 2/3 month so what happened in those months............Nothing

Now I don't buy into this "we have no support cos of the big footie teams down the road" syndrome. There are hundreds if not thousands of local people who support those teams and never ever go to watch them live for whatever reason. Therefore they could possibly afford to come and watch Salford if they were interested in the sport, but they aren't. The fact is that Salford is not a RL area despite what many might think. Thats why we are a small club with a small club mentality. It's one of the reasons why we hate Wire so much because they have gone from being a relatively small club into having ( though not fullfilling) some potential.
It doesn't help though that we haven't been as competative as the outside public would want us to be for them to come and watch. Saying that crowds weren't that good when we in the play offs.

| When Trish Goldsmith was heading up the publicity campaign she was ideal for the job, but some posters on here objected to her tactics and the way that she controlled things she was however very successful in my opinion.
Adam Jude's role has never been fully explained to the fans although the in roads that are being made in the local areas may be attributed to Adam, perhaps the club could explain who does what etc.
We get publicity from a variety of quarters but it is not always good publicity lately mainly due to the problems with the new stadium and the majority of of hopes of increased attendances, new sponsors, new money coming into the club were based around the new stadium development.
The publicity that Huddersfield received last year with their special season ticket launch, and the subsequent increase in season tickets sales for this season is something that we should or possibly are looking at, as it provided a large amount of income at a time when the club is not receiving any, so that must be a good thing and was good publicity.
The club has to be careful not to alienate the regular season ticket holders/ supporters with special offers as if you are not careful we have people who are only interested in these freebies whilst the season ticket holders have paid their money up front well in advance.
Back to publicity and we probably get more in the press(MEN & Advertiser)
than most clubs but what sort is it?Usually items off the Turkey which in some cases are way off the mark and usually negative in a lot of respects.
Finally if we were more consistent on the field than we have been the interest in the club would increase as would the support where as at present we take one step forward and two steps back.

yes but only half what they where getting, and having worked at city I used to laugh at the loyal fan thing, Leeds have still get a similar following to what City had in that division. Every sport has a lot of fans who don't go, two weeks ago I went to OT for the friendly against Valancia over 70,000 locals there, thousands of kids because it was only a fiver for them and a tenner for adults plus there was a match programme. If only Salford would have had posters or a page in the programme about the next games at Salford and special offers for anyone with a ticket from the friendly a massive opp was missed there. John is a big United fan he even does matchday specials from his hotel on Chester Road, he surely could see the potential there.

You are wrong there Pev. City got on average 32k at maine rd and sold out all their away games, unlike Trafford utd who i believe were only getting approx 27k in the 70s & early 80s. Easy mistake to make mate

Oh dear oh dear!! Someone needs to look at the facts.
Now, presuming you mean [iManchester[/i United then the average attendances were as follows...
68-69 - 51,169 City - 33,750
69-70 - 49,862 City - 33,930
70-71 - 43,945 City - 31,041
71-72 - 45,999 City - 38,573
72-73 - 48,623 City - 32,351
73-74 - 42,712 City - 30,756
74-75 - 48,389 City - 32,898
75-76 - 54,750 City - 34,280
76-77 - 53,710 City - 40,058
77-78 - 51,860 City - 41,687
78-79 - 46,430 City - 36,203
79-80 - 51,608 City - 35,272
80-81 - 45,071 City - 33,587
81-82 - 44,571 City - 34,063
82-83 - 41,695 City - 26,789
83-84 - 42,534 City - 25,604
84-85 - 42,881 City - 24,220
85-86 - 46,321 City - 24,229
86-87 - 40,594 City - 21,922
87-88 - 39,152 City - 19,472
88-89 - 36,474 City - 23,500
89-90 - 39,331 City - 27,975
90-91 - 43,242 City - 27,874
Not once in those 23 years did City have a higher attendance than Nited and only 3 times was Nited's average under 40K...not quite the 27K quoted though we have had a few crowds of round about that figure - Wimbledon at home on a Monday night was definitely a 27Kish crowd if I remember rightly.

Agreed , didn't stop us getting decent attendances in the 70's when Utd had Best, Law & Charlton , Indeed Myth has it they would even turn up to watch the odd game.
If the product is the right mixture of flair , spirit and determination everything else becomes easier. I can't remember worrying about the ' completion rate ' with Watkins Fielding, Dixon & Coulman on the pitch.
The club has to start their 2010 marketing campaign NOW , and make some bold headline grabbing descisions.
Some premiership Football clubs are doing £150 season ticket offers now, it's a reccession and people are making hard decisions. I get the impression that everything seems ' on hold ' pending pronouncements on our new stadium.

| I personaly dont think we use the salford advertisor to the full. First thing I do when I get the advertisor is pick up all the crap that falls out advertising certain products. why cant we stick a big flyer in there advertising the following game with any promotions, and possible do the same with the MEN as that hits a wider range than the other paper mentioned
