How can it be a stupid rule!?! Would you prefer the board to bankrupt themselves and the club hoping to get the odd extra hundred supporters coming throught the turnstiles. You obviously have no idea of what RL was like pre SL. If you did you would understand the positive impacts of rule.

And then thats only if the expected extra thousands turn up, as we won't be getting any extra revenue from the site now that we don't own the stadium and projected retail site

I have said it time and time again.
A stadium on its own will not bring the fans,you need a team that is succesful to bring those fans in.
This year is case in point, we get through to the quarter finals of the cup and all these fans suddenly turn up.
Other people are not like us who will turn up through thick and thicker.
Lose our best players and you can kiss goodbye to any hope of ever getting the crowds.

The salary cap is not a stupid rule but yet again it is administered in a stupid way. The RFL have come up with an idea that doesn't do what they want. It is supposed to do 2 things:
1. Ensure clubs do not go bankrupt
2. Level out the playing field by spreading the quality players around the league.

Firstly clubs are still going bankrupt, ie Doncaster most recently (and they have a super duper new stadium!!!!!).
Secondly the playing field clearly isn't level since the best players still go to the clubs with all the money because they can earn more than at teams like us.

The truth is that we don't have the amount to spend on players that the top clubs do. Putting a ceiling on it of 1.6 million is one way of stopping over spending but only if you have that in the first place. In reality it is not a salary cap because there is no limit (other than the 1.6 million) on how much 1 individual player can earn.

If they want to spread the players around then there should be a limit on how much you can pay each player. This should be within the buget of the smaller clubs. Therefore players wouldn't feel the need to move on purely to get greater financial rewards and agents would be taken out of the equation and would not hoike their clients around like a piece of meat.

Some would say that the biggest clubs would then have a surplus of money that they hadnothing to do with. Perhaps this could be put into crowd facilities, community projects etc or even bringing the price of tickets and merchandise down so that fans are not continually fleeced.

I know cloud cuckoo land again. This will never happen because there are too many selfish people with vested interests!!!

All clubs are allowed to spend the same. It's just the small issue that you need to have it to be able to spend it.

So are you saying we should break the bank, possibly go into debt and run the risk of bankrupting the club in order to get a good team, because you reckon it'll pull the crowds in? What happens if success doesn't come? Or if the crowds don't come? And the club goes under? What then?

Got to think that in a couple of years time if the club doesnt get it's franchise renewed it will slowly fade away, so maybe it is a case of one last throw of the dice. The fact remains that the club had many more supporters at the Wigan cup game than normal and they so obviously came out when there was a glimpse of success so maybe the case can be argued that they are there we just need to give them a taste of something good to get them to come.

But the week after proved that, when things don't go the way they want them to, they all crawl back into the woodwork.

I know, my point being maybe that investment would breed a bit of sustanied success and entice them to turn out week in week out and maybe buy season tickets.
Not saying this is the right course of action but I think the logic stands up as only the most foolish must think that failing to get the franchise renewed would lead to anything but oblivion.

Another way to look at this is in 4 or 5 years time when the next round of franchise choices are being made can you see any lower division team being remotely strong enough to gain admission? for me the RFL will look at a Scotish team, Irish team and maybe another team on the continent meaning that in effect the lower divisions will be close to a seperate game in all but name.
Super League will soon become a closed shop to clubs not manufactured by the RFL and slipping out at the next round of choices would be the death mell to the club.

Excellent point. If the club fails to get another license there will be no way we will be let back in again. Therefore we are entering an uncertain time and maybe the phrase that suits is Sh*t or Bust. Hopefully the club will put there faith in the youngsters and if that means putting all our eggs in one basket i think this is the time to do it

You maybe want to ask Oldham, Halifax, Widnes, and Keighley fans what they think of the $h!t or bust approach

Also if you want quick success putting faith in young ones ain't gonna do it, that's for the long term. Much better to spend money short term on established succesful players if you want quick results

But what is "sustained success" these days? There are only two things to win and we have an increasingly even competition which should mean that "successful" teasm win less games. I'd be delighted if we could sustain a level at which we won more games than we lost - but will that be enough for our local bandwagoners, or does it need a sniff of silverware to get them coming?

Sustained sucess in my eyes is going into every game thinking there is a chance of winning, it is ending the season in the top 8 and not fearing another trip to Bradford only to be ritually humilliated, it is teams turning up at the Willows dreading it rather than not looking forward to it but winning anyway.
All the above would generate greater interest, more column inch's and make us more saleable to the sponsers than we currently are.

But can you see any of the above teams ever haveing a sniff at getting into SL? we face the very real risk of it becomeing a closed shop with only manufactured teams of the RFL's choseing getting into the top flight.

Know I think to a degree that pushing the boat out now and getting the type of player capable to taking us on to the next level is a gamble worth taking, can you see us getting knocked back for a franchise if we are challenging the top four week in week out but not haveing the stadium? or can you can you see us getting the franchise with no stadium and the same level of minimal sucess we have at the moment??

I think the answer is pretty obvious.
