So, Saints (and Wigan) failed in their attempt to end the season early and now, despite having close to fully fit squads, dont wish to complete the regular rounds of fixtures.

This should be really helpful in getting a decent TV deal next year and takes the proverbial out of the game.

I also wonder whether its actually due to "sporting reasons" or whether its a financially driven matter - noting that clubs could (probably) furlough staff from 05 Nov (again), and it must be financially better for some do do that, rather than continue playing meaningless games.

If the sport continues then surely furlough isn't an option as it is a business decision not enforced closure? Otherwise all teams not involved in the playoffs cam furlough everyone?

Super League will get a reduced TV deal next time with Sky, hence why Super League will become a 10 team competition to make sure the bigger clubs don't see a big drop in TV money.

We've not withdrawn from the competition so don't need to re-apply. We can't fulfil fixtures before the scheduled seasons end due to a Covid outbreak. Players have to isolate for 14 days and our last game is scheduled for 10 days time. We have also paid all our players on time and played all our games on the road to suit the competition and help fulfil the Sky contract. Cheers.

Plenty of games, it does appear as though there is a play off for 7th place this week to produce a standby team, then we go into a top 6 play off.

No, that was only a rumour. The latest rumour was that the RFL instructed Catalan to stop in England after the Salford game and play Saints at a neutral venue on Thursday. Saints agreed to it but Catalan later refused and went back to France. The new Covid rules came into play on the Thursday and the international protocol needed to be clarified, result cancellation of the fixture and the play offs agreed for next week.

They allowed the Wigan game, to complete 17 games as per Saints to decide the LLS.

Season finishing this weekend for play offs so it's only one fixture being forfeited due to not been able to raise a team due to Covid. Disgusting, kick us out

(Salford also forfeited a game earlier in the season and Cas next two games also cancelled btw).
