| For me it has to be Henry Paul. He was the most stylish player ive ever seen and could literally glide over the pitch especially in his younger years. He would often do very little for periods of the game and then just pop up at the right time and pull a wonder try out of the bag like a magician. I wish we had brought Robbie to Wigan then we could of kept Henry here. I saw the video of him on the Wigan Facebook page the other day and he still looks in superb condition and has not aged one bit.

| I always used to enjoy watching Dean Bell, he was another who used to glide over the surface, he had pace, poise and presence.

Yes Bell was deceptively fast in his prime and had no real flaws in his game and did everything to a very high standard. Great player.

| Not necessarily the most enjoyable to watch every week even though he’s one of the best centres we’ve had but Gary Connolly.
It was particularly enjoyable seeing him switched to completely shut down Paul Newlove in the games they played against each other.

| We've definitely been spoiled over the years. The list is endless with supreme talent.
For me Henderson Gill as he was my first, most recently Sam during his first spell.
You could even say Amos Roberts over that 10 game spell, absolutely unplayable.

| Sam Tomkins 2009-2013 would be right up there. He was unplayable at points. The try at the Etihad against Saints where he dummied to himself was just outstanding and his try and celebration at Langtree park will live long in the memory. They were both in 2012 in that black and gold kit and they summed up how freakishly good he was at that point and he was feared (and hated because of the fear) across the league.
I’d say before Sam I’d be going with Robinson and Inga. They were dynamite and great to watch. They were the sort of players who made you sit up each time they got the ball.
I’d way those 3 have been the most enjoyable to watch but Terry Newton is my favourite. Watching these old derbies back has just reiterated how special he was for Wigan and how much playing for the club meant to him.

| Martin Offiah.
One of the greatest wingmen ever to play the game. Like all truly fast men his feet hardly seemed to touch the ground.
Sublime.

Rads
Connolly
Inga
Barrett
Kenny
Iro
Slightly less glamorous but for me but the two below on their day made me think they could do anything
Hock
Houghton
Also special mention for me to George Carmont. Bargain of the last 15 years. 100% every game, great man and total class
We could actually do this thread and ask for our favourites minus the obvious or we will all say Offiah, Robinson, Bell, Edwards, Farrell, Boston etc etc

I agree 100% re Tomkins. I remember saying to a mate probably in the 2012 season that Tomkins was the most natural player that I had ever seen. He was quite shocked as I've watched the game for quite a few years and he expected me to say Hanley or Gregory etc but for me at that period in time he was fantastic to watch. When a player is hated so much by opposition fans then you know that you have someone special.
Terry Newton was a superb player for us particularly as you say against Saints. He could be pretty "nasty" but that was what I wanted from a forward. I never had a problem with a forward who got sent off once or twice in a season. He'd by in my best 13 without even thinking about it.
The player best at his "craft" was for me Gene Miles. Never seen a better a centre and probably never will. Offiah must thought it was his birthday everyday when he partnered Miles.
The player that gave me the most pleasure was Gareth Hock. I'd seen Gareth play from when he was at St Cuthberts junior school and even at the age of 10 you could see the class that the lad had. A great pity about his off the field activities (and some on the field) but when put on some skill such as steeping around Wellens (I think at the Etihad?) I used to just smile inwardly and savour the moment.
Favourite memory was watching Boston live at Central for the first time. We got mullered by Halifax and Boston was well past his best but just actually seeing him in the flesh so to speak had me walking on air for weeks afterwards.
I've been very lucky seeing some great players over the years.
My favourite opposition player was Peacock. Probably not the best in terms of skill but loved his attitude particularly when he put the Aussie on his arris.

| Agree with all of those Itchy, good post.
Aside from the ones mentioned:
Steve Renouf, had everything you could want from a centre, a real shame the club didn't want to keep him for longer
Brian Carney in 03-05, did it against the Aussies too
George Carmont, probably our best centre in SL era due to longevity but lethal partnership with Richards and always gave 100%
Blake Green, inconsistent at times but incredible in 2003 GF and could dummy and go through a line as good as anyone. He went back to the NRL and was still great
Gelling (for the right and wrong reasons)
Most recently Manfredi and Marshall who can make something out of nothing. Marshy's try vs. Hudds is one of the best I've seen for a few years from a Wigan player.
Opposition players:
Lesley Vainikolo
Stacey Jones
Jamie Lyon
Paul Newlove

| I have been watching Wigan for the best part of 25 years, entertainment wise I would say Inga and Jason Robinson are 2 that come to mind from the early days, Tomkins in his first spell was great but I think Amos Roberts at the start of 2010 was the most entertaining and probably the best I have seen someone play in a Wigan jersey.

Carmont is a an excellent catch. I don't think that I can recall him ever having a poor game. Great clubman.
Marshall's try at Huddersfield was probably the best Wigan try in the last 15 years or so. The lad has obviously put a lot of effort in to improve his game and its great to see the results.
Lyon is probably my favourite Saints player if that is possible Top class centre with probably only Miles & Meninga that I would put in the same bracket with for me Miles the "classic" centre.
I used to work with Newlove's girlfriend years ago and she used to call him a bit of a mard arris so I could never quite take him seriously
One player who I did admire was Parry Gordon over at the Wire. Tough as teak for a half back and arguably the best ever half back not to get a cap.

| Can't look post Tomkins for me. Imagining what he could've done in our early 90s team is frightening. Magic player.
Most of the ones which come to mine have been mentioned, but I've always liked players with top passing technique as much as players who can run past defences. Couple of recent-ish examples who maybe wouldn't be obvious were Finch and Piggy Riddell.

He gave a speech at their awards night and basically slagged wigan off from start to finish totally unprovoked and unnecessary.

| So difficult to single any out as we have been absolutely spoiled and I agree with all the players mentioned.
That spell from Amos Roberts though was absolutely unbelievable.
For about 10 games he was unplayable, I’ve never seen anything like it on a rugby field in the pro game.
Literally every time he got the ball something happened and most of the time there looked to be nothing on.
Such a shame the way it ended.
