STATEMENT FROM TORONTO WOLFPACK ON BEHALF OF BRIAN MCDERMOTT

Today, we have advised four of our players who have experienced mild possible symptoms of COVID-19 to self Isolate in accordance with the guidelines set by the UK government. We take this very seriously and as a precaution, we have stood down our entire playing staff in the UK.

We train in an environment where we interact with students and members of the public and we vehemently do not want to act as a possible vector for COVID-19 which is why we have taken this immediate action. The health and welfare of our players, staff, fans and partners is always our primary concern. Our main goal is to prevent any further spread to our playing squad and their immediate family members, therefore we are now postponing all practice and have tasked our squad with keeping themselves healthy.

We will continue to monitor this while providing updates to our League's governors and wait for a directive from them.

Am I the only one that is a little cynical about this, that of all the teams to do this, it's the team that can't get a win and who faces a nightmare summer, with no actual home games?

It's hard not to be cynical.
If SL was postponed indefinitely and we started again next season, Toronto would be delighted and it may be their only way to avoid relegation.

Having said that, it looks like the comp will be suspended very soon so, it almost doesn't matter.
Let's just hope that the game and it's fans all make it through.

they have "mild symptoms" which were the same as the Leeds players, who all tested negative.
But, to give balance, of course thats not to say that any of their players wont test positive.

no your not, Leeds had few that had the sniffles and was tested negative hard not to say that they took the right decision as travelling abroard could off had them stranded, however with Toronto based in Britain for the time being looks to have taken the easy option but we won't know if they are crying wolf yet

I hope they don’t think we are travelling to Toronto twice. If this is the case that this gets postponed and probably will it’s played at Wakefield when it’s played.

Don’t think they are testing anymore unless your symptoms are severe as costing Nhs £800 a time. With no testing in place you have to be careful. Think McDermott knows this. Someone else who posts on this forum thought it was odd that the coach was making a statement and not the owner or ceo.

The game that is due to take place on Sunday is of course one of the loop fixtures and is an away fixture.
Just another complication in having far flung clubs playing in the comp.

I know that it's a far way into the future but,from a Trinity point of view, it would make sense to play back to back fixtures over there (or over here) to reduce the amount of travel and re arrange any affected games.

The few fans that turned up were well over the advisory 2 metres apart, there was only 3 in each stand

If you can pay for testing maybe they should test the players and if negative then it should be played.

At £800 per test it would cost more to test the 21 - £16,800 - and thats not including support staff, than it would probably make in gate receipts!
