It is one thing to be biased for one team, as the Manchester commentators are for Salford.
It is another thing not to call the play and not bother to learn to recognise the London players.

When London is in possession the Manchester radio team spend most of the time analysing the faults of the Salford side, and neglecting to call the play in progress. Part of the reason is that they are too lazy to learn who the London players are. They only know 5 London players: Gower, Witt, Dixon, Bailey and former Salford player Dorn. So when a different London player has the ball they can't identify him.

An appalling unprofessional performance from the commentators.

Told you no-one cares.

The lead commentator has just announced that last week Leeds lost the WCC to Manly.

The dopey commentator Jack Dearden has just repeated that Leeds lost to Manly last week and not one of his fellow commentators, who include Leigh coach Paul Rowley, and Trevor Hunt, has corrected him.

Wow! The commentary team has identified Ben Fisher as a London player.

Down with this sort of thing.

That's pretty awful. Is it that hard as a commentator to take a slight interest in the major events in the sport? Or to learn players... I mean seriously London have a good few rising talents everyone should be keeping an eye on, not just the old (ex)internationals.

Hunt and Dearden have been commemtating and doing phone-ins for years, you'd have thought theyd have known better. Is Malcolm Lord still going? Not listened to GMR for donkeys years.

They are usually decent with the phone ins but why must commentators be so aged in this sport?

GMR have been shambolic for decades. Why this seems to be news to some I'll never know.

Don't mind it on local radio. It sounds pretty daft and parochial, but that's local radio for you. It would be good if every game was covered by a neutral commentary somewhere, say on t'internet ( somebody tell me if this has already happened!)

It's dragging out poor Ray French on some of our biggest days for TV exposure that's done wonders for convincing the southerners that this a "local sport for local people."

...and thats why the BBC are getting rid of local sport coverage. It was truly shocking.

Listening as a London fan I really didn't know who was on the pitch or what was going on when London had the ball. All we knew was that Salford lost because they made 2 mistakes in the first half. Woeful

Chill. I don't think it's any disrespect to London. With the exception of Phil Kinsella, GMR's commentaries tend to go something like this...

"Salford, on the attack...Gleeson, stopped ten yards out, second tackle....Elsewhere, Bury 0 Oldham 0 is a latest score, while Sale are in action at Harlequins and we'll be over there for an update in few minutes, Stockport's game against Halifax is off, of course....Just a quick reminder that tomorrow on Radio Manchester: full match commentary on City versus Chelsea from the Etihad - Ian Cheeseman in place from 2 o'clock, and regular updates on United's trip to QPR and Bolton away at Leeds, followed by the football phone-in, so if you've any points you want to raise arising from this weekend's matches, or any football topic up for grabs....Bury 1 Oldham 0 I'm hearing....Oh! And London could be in here...And they are in!!"

They used to use the tagline "It's just like being there" on their commentaries. As long as "being there" involved having someone in your ear for 80 minutes telling you what's happening somewhere else.
