If I was told that my wages were late going in to my bank account because the accountant was "reviewing" something, I'd be pretty pee'd off, and wouldn't care who's fault it is.

Hard to argue with that - who wouldn't be hacked off if their wages were 3 months late?

Um, if the RFL owes the ARL the money they kinda are.

Although if the payments agreed with the Aussie players was an ARL contract, then the ARL is responsible for meeting it's obligations to the players and the money the ARL is owed contractually shouldn't matter?

Either way, if the RFL owe the ARL money, then it's a poor show that they haven't gotten it sorted out, yet.

Seems to be a lot of blame being thrown around. How can we make accusations without knowing the financial agreements and the nature of costs incurred.

I'm not an accountant but I would imagine they will want explanation for expenses and won't pay out until they are satisfied. I'm not saying this is the case, but it's usually the sort of thing that slows payment down.

It's a shame the Australian players have not been paid and would be interesting to know if others have.

The fact that the RFL owes the ARL money has no relationship to the fact that the ARL owes its players money.

Sort it out.

These aresn't wages, it's prize money from a tournament hosted by the RFL.

Surely it's just waiting for the tournament audit to be completed, if it's like the audits we have at work 3 months is nothing to wait for 1 to be completed.

Seems like the money means more to the Aussies than the achievement. A shame.

Late payment of a bonus doesn't look good but is not the real story.

Either the ARL are unwilling (player interest) or unable (low reserves) to be able to pay their players in advance while they wait for the RFL to complete the audit.

Or the ARL don't trust the RFL to stump up the full amount and don't want to be left holding the bag.

I seem to recall a similar situation a few years ago where the RFL were being accused of not paying up. When the [iwhole[/i story came out, the RFL were actually withholding payment until a claim by a hotel for damage was resolved.

I'm not saying this is the case here, but perhaps they have learned a lesson and won't pay until accounts and expenses are verified.
