It's official.

Next year is our last year at Wheldon Road, in the paper tomorrow that we have sold our old ground which in turn plugs the funding gap and we can now start building our new home.

With quality sponsors on board for this season and seasons to come it could prove to be the rise again of the Castleford Tigers.

Moving to Belle Vue

Anyone would think there is a franchise decsion due or something? So many (SL) clubs getting new grounds for 2012, almost as many as 2009 and how many of them got built?

Out of interest, how much did Cas get in the end? Rumours suggested a while back they agreed a deal for £6m with a developer, but no figure has been given in the Ponte and Cas article. Is this still the case? If so they have done bloody well.

Didn't a Wakefield councillor get the area reclassified or something to make it usable for residential housing or was that something else? That would certainly bump up the price.

But well done. There's certainly alot of building work going on - I wonder how many specialist stadium building companies there are out there!

2 of the best grounds in the country don't have sooooperdoooooper league clubs there but an awful lot of "inferior" grounds do.

Start laying bricks then most fans will say well done but dont do what swindon fc did which was to stop building the ground half way through and go back years after to complete the stadium.

In castlefords case what has been holding us back is we havent been able to sell our ground (our main source of funding) until the hicksons blast zone was removed. It was removed a couple of weeks ago and now we have sold the ground. Which is why this is big news as theres is nothing to hold us back now, full planning permission should be a formality with outline already granted and no objections to the build, and theres nothing to stop us begin building early next year now.

Sounds similar to Salfords problem with archaeological digs on their stadium site

How are archaeological excavations and the removal of blast zone of a former chemical site in anyway similar?

I dont know much about the salford site, but i spent 4 years at uni studying archaeology and any form of development that is to be built on archaeological remains or suspected remains must be fully excavated before any building can take place, as required by law.
