Now that Bradford council have again urinated violently on the dreams of every Bulls fan and seemingly doomed us to abandon Odsal for good,
www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/s ... s_village/
how have other club with new or projected stadiums funded them?
Hull – Proceeds of private telecoms sale
Huddersfield – Forward thinking council (perish the thought)
Wigan – Millionaire Whelan
Warrington – dunno
Leigh – Wigan MBC funded?
Wakefield – self funded?
Castleford – self funded?
St Helens – self funded?

| Warrington's stadium was funded by Tesco for £12 Million.
Tesco had tried to get a store in the town for years but always got turned down for the store being on it's own.
Our old stadium Wilderspool is still standing and is owned by the council, who bought it at some point to help the club financially when we were struggling.

Saints is being funded in partnership with Tesco, according to their website www.sthelensstadium.com/pages/vision.htm. Cas's stadium will be the only one in Super League that is self-funded and without the aid of a major benefactor.

We are contributing the net proceeds from the sale of Knowsley Road for residential development, the council are chipping in as are Tesco.

=#8000FFWell all the objectors seem to be from close to the stadium site, the people who want it from not so close. The website/leaflet campaign they've just started etc. If the locals make enough fuss you might have a long wait on your hands. Another question: it's in an LS postal area? so why has it been submitted to Wakey council?

| It's a shame more council's are not willing to get on board.
LSV has been a massive hit around here!
New stadiums for clubs like wakey and cas would transform the clubs like it has done for wire.

| The Newmarket Community Stadium funding derives from a variety of sources. Sale of Belle Vue, grants from the usual suspects, capital raised by a loan of land by Wakefield council and private finance by the developer YorkCourt who are meeting the shortfall.

=#8000FFForgot about that bit for both Cas & Wakey.
Also there's Surfworld for Cas the money they're putting in adds up to more then what their facility costs so the remaining money at a guess will go towards the stand they will be attached to.

I'm pleased that you've put that as your's and Fully's suggestions that your stadium will be 'self-funded' are delusional!
Both the Wakey and Cas schemes are being put together with input from several sources, including their own capital input from existing resources, grant funding, planning gain etc, but not direct funding from the council. They do however both rely on Council support, including the loans against land provided by the Council.

Ahem. For clarification purposes I meant without the aid of a major benefactor - i.e. one source putting in money. And by self-funding I meant through various income streams such as the sale of the ground, the loan against the land (which is technically in Cas' ownership, is it not?), sponsorships etc, which will all go to Cas as a club.

| Tesco would have built a brand new stadium at Odsal, but Caddick objected and Byers called the project in. The same Byers chap who has been in the papers of late.

| the only way is to make it a part of a bigger scheme, thus bringing in the required investment and funding from large companies. regardless of what some cas supporters seem to think, the idea that any superleague club can finance their own stadium is laughable.
think all the new stadia as far as i can recall have been funded this way
the clubs cant afford it, the councils cant afford it !!

W1g4n MBC did not provide the bulk of the finance to build the LSV , they did underight the potential shortfall of around 2 million , but the rest came from several different sources , both private and grant aided

| Widnes's ground was funded by Halton Borough Council, Sport England and the club, with grants from the EU and Lottery, plus sale of naming rights also involved. Lots of smaller projects rather than one single big investment. The nature of the funding meant the project was done piecemeal over nearly 10 years and also means a significant part of the spend was on conference facilities for businesses, plus the various fitness centres, sports injury clinic & other regional facilities for wannabe olympic competitors - not just a RL facility.
I think it's always going to be easier for one team towns like Warrington, Widnes, St. Helens etc. to get local council involvement. In the pre-SL days when Widnes were allowed to still be a members club rather than a company, there were always local politicians getting themselves known on the club committee.
Hard to see many local councils having funding for any large discretionary projects in the next couple of years.

They've started the campaign way too late for it to have any impact on the overall decision.
