As the game grows, we're going to get more thugs - it needs to be stamped out.
A bottle was also thrown at the referee during the Bulls vs Saints game last week.

Yup, that'd be right, ignore all the times fans of 'bigger' clubs have done it and make an example of Cas.
I do remember when Leeds fans littered the Cas pitch with bottles in 2006 there was barely a whimper in the media, or on here...
Oh, and before people talk of me condoning it, I said this on another thread on the subject:

| Seen aggression at Castleford a few times. Been hit with a 50pence before, though it helped buy me an ice-cream.
Of course, there are two sides to every argument and Widnes certainly have their fair share of idiots (generally teenage boys) which are often responsible for stirring things up.

| The only sensible thing to do (if proven true) is dock them a couple of points. A strong deterrent is required, apparently its not the first time this kind of thing has gone on at Cas.

it's because it was ignored before that it carries on. i did say i'd hate it to happen to cas but what do we do. do we say cas are a small club we'll let it slip and wait for one of the big3 to do it before we punish anyone ?
It should have happened at Leeds, it didn't but it should happen this time.
Sorry but even if this was Wire (especially wire actually) i'd want the same thing.
Im not getting holier than thou but we are supposed to be a family game.

Tough one, as you'd have to be consistant which we know is not the RFL's strength. It could also cause issues if certain clubs get fined/docked points and others don't.
It is a shame, we pride ourselves on how the fans can mingle (albeit with lots of banter) and I continually talk up the Magic weekends as there is no way in the world football could do that.
The fans need to behave better. And whoever did misbehave at Cas, I hope they get found and banned.

| Shocking behaviour from cas fans, and very disappointing.
In my opinion though, as well as investigating the culprits in the crowd, the RFL need to look at what happened to make fans react this way. Ultimately, the referee is responsible for the players and spectators in a match. He influences what happens, and if he had policed the game better then perhaps there wouldn't have been so much discontent in the crowd.
Obviously i'm not saying that throwing bottles onto the pitch is an acceptable way to show your frustrations, but the crowd were frustrated none the less, and a lot of that lies on the shoulders of the referee.

| There's never any justification for throwing anything on to the field but as the hooter went, Elima and a few other Catalan players started making hand gestures to the crowd right in front of the WRE. That's when the bottles started.

| To make an example of Cas as a club is very harsh, 99% of the fans were fine, just a few mindless idiots .... surely deal harshly with the idiots and ban them for life, not fair on the players, fans and backroom staff to dock points etc.

| don't knock points off, just close the stadium for a game to the fans.
The lost revenue would be a better punishment and would force the backroom people to work harder to stamp it out.

Again though 99% of decent fans suffer for a few mindless idiots, not fair in my book. Let Cas sort it out the RFL and deal very harshly with those idiots IMO.

| I think we need more stewarding. The stewards at Halifax often get criticised for being ineffective but in our home match against Leigh, the chants got pretty abusive and "adult rated". Two stewards asked a group of Leigh fans to stop the abuse. Amazingly - they co-operated and stopped. I think also that other more responsible fans stood nearby can (in unison) try and calm the trouble makers down. I've seen it happen loads of times and it's quite effective.

What absolute tosh!!!
So if there is a problem it is someone else who has caused it?
Since when has a referee been responsible for any player or spectator?
What would like them to do?
Wipe their backsides if they go to the loo?
Buy them a pint if they are thirsty?
Smooth the players furrowed brows when they drop the ball, miss a tackle, stand off side etc., etc..
No the answer is the people who caused the problem are people who limited intelligence who probably think society owes them everything and they owe society nothing.
And it's DEFINITELY not their fault no matter what happens.
It's about time they took PERSONAL responsibility for their actions and suffer the subsequent reactions.

Spot on!
I've been going to Rugby League games for over 20 years and in that time i have had many Referee's decision go against my team which had cost us games - i have been seething at some refereeing performances BUT i have never ever resorted to throwing missiles at a match official and i should imagine as i have reached a quite mature age i never will !

| Not whatsoever condoning what may have gone on down at Cas. However, two seasons ago similar happened in Perpignan, when they actually beat us, yet felt hard done by from the ref. Nothing was mentioned of that at the time.

| So a couple of chavs get Cas into bother...but when Wakefield fans threw stuff onto the pitch at Cas they got let off, when they chased the ref off the pitch they got let off. When Leeds fans littered the pitch in bottles, they got let off...Catalan players mocking Cas fans (which started the throwing according to people in the WRE) get let off, the Catalan player that threw a bottle back and hit a fan gets let off...but yeah typical RFL make an example out of Cas ala McGoldrick getting banned for something Fozzard gets away with every week
Or how about when Salford fans threw bottles and a FLAIR onto the pitch at the Jungle, narrowly missing the in goal judge and Richard Owen, nothing said about that either.

| Its a shame as it has already happend with cas this season already. When briscoe went over at craven park against them a bottle was thrown onto the pitch. I no its a very small minority but i have seen it at lots of games, the funnniest 1 was seeing a kr fan throw a program at a linesman

I think in your haste to demonstrate your superior wit you have missed my point. Allow me to reiterate it.
People get annoyed for a reason. In this case it was because they felt the referee was not being as fair as he should be (i.e not going to the video ref for debatable tries, not being consistent with offsides, allowing a number of high tackles with no real sanction).
The referee's actions influence people. If he had been seen to be more consistent, people would not have been frustrated.
Again, before you jump in with a load of nonsense about how I am condoning the crowd reaction, I'm not. It was unacceptable. What I am saying is human beings react to events with emotion.
Event - rubbish ref
Emotion - anger
Result - aggression

Were these the same fans who were shouting for non-existent offences all night? Also have you got any evidence that a Catalan player threw a bottle at a fan? Because that is a very serious allegation and I seriously doubt that it is true.
