| don't like to compare league to union, but don't they dish out massive bans on a regular basis for acts of foul play?

True - but irrelevant in this case.
If you twist someone's ankle through 360 degrees, whether you set out to break it or not, there's a strong likelihood that you will, or at least cause a serious injury - you know that when you do it, but you choose to do it anyway; that's enough intent for me.
I think Him has it about right in an earlier post - this type of tackle is intentional and it's designed to hurt so much that the tackled player rolls himself over; yet another of the myriad ways in which coaches are teaching players to slow down the ptb. In this case, DM either wouldn't or couldn't roll over himself - and the injury resulted. Entirely foreseeable, totally preventable and utterly against the true spirit of the game.

| Any news on McGuire.
Seems very quiet regarding the injury.
If it's broke surely he will either have a pot on or leas a boot.
Whats the score

We'll know more further after Sneyd's disciplinary hearing.

There are rumours it isn't a break at all and will be fit for Friday.
Talk of banning him for the length of the injury is always mentioned at times like this, and for me is a load of rubbish. You hear of operations being unsuccessful, or players getting infections which delays recovery. Should a player not be allowed to play in these events, or have to wait until the injured player plays again??

| Yeah McGuire's getting on a bit as well. A decent length injury might cause him to decide to retire. Is Sneyd supposed to them retire too?
Having the scale we have is the right place to go.

Given Sneyd's history I do not believe there was intent to injure, the intention was to get the player to roll to slow down the PTB. Just holding on would be far more likely to be penalised. I also find it hard to believe any more than one coach would teach their players to deliberately carry out this action. Notwithstanding, it was illegal, dangerous & resulted in injury, so he deserves his punishment.

It is, pretty what I have been saying and some consistency from the RFL.
He can't use an EGP can he?

Apparently not according to the report.
I know what I said earlier, that was based on having seen plenty of players turned over by the leg over twenty years, but the DP obviously have had a good look at it and deemed it quite severe, so fair enough, I was wrong.

What if (hopefully) it is just a light sprain & he is back in 2 weeks? A 2 week ban?

I think deliberate or not, he has done an illegal tackle and injured a player and an example must be set.

No they haven't. Provide 5 examples or stop lying.
Leeds, like every team, have employed techniques in the past designed to hurt the opposition. The most notable was kneeing/putting weight on the calf of the ball carrier. That was a few years ago. But not under Brian McDermott.
That's still a sh|thouse tactic that shouldn't have been allowed at the time. Maybe if a Leeds player (or player from other teams performing similar acts) had received a large ban then maybe the likes of cannonball tackles and twisting ankles wouldn't have come in to the sport now.
Sadly the RFL don't look like they want to get rid of these tactics. An 8 match ban for Chase wasn't enough (with his record) and a 5 match ban for this is pathetic.
These techniques aren't part of the game. They are designed solely to cause pain to the opponent.
They should be swiftly eliminated from the game.

Apparently he left the ground in a protective boot. Usually they need to wait a few days for swelling etc before scans/xrays but I'm sure the hull fans won't let that get in the way of it all being a conspiracy against poor innocent victim sneyd

So post-match when McDermott was saying it's a broken ankle, in reality he had no idea what the injury was?

I wouldn't say [ino idea[/i. If McGuire couldn't put any weight on his foot, and says it's because of his ankle, it sort of gives you an [iidea[/i about the injury. It won't be a dislocated shoulder, for instance.

Gives you an idea yes, but there's a difference between a break & a sprain for example.

And if it's not, which hopefully it isn't, does that mean Sneyd should be let off and we should all apologise to the real victims in all this? The poor Hull fans.
