Clear sending off without any doubt. Unnecessary and blatant but not the worst hit we've seen, but probably 2-3 games.
McIlorum cost us the game tonight and could have now cost us the play-offs by losing us our first-choice hooker, a massive presence in defence. He did this at KR last week, throwing shots and giving away penalties, costing us dearly - hope he's pleased with himself.
Prat. Hope Wane tears strips off him.

Yep, you'd have won relatively comfortably (for a Wigan v Saints game) with 13 men.
He's a very good player but seems to have a bit of a Terry Newton idiocy streak in him, if he can control his aggression he'll be even better.

O'Loughlin was very lucky to stay on as well for his very deliberate high shot on Makinson, players have gone for far less than that this season.
When they got put under pressure Wigan's discipline went completely and it must be a worry for them. McIllorum is becoming as much of a mindless idiot as Terry Newton and the likes of Finch and Carmont could easily have walked for their reactions/paddies at the referee when Wilkin put in a good shot on O'Loughlin. I don't think Finch, Tomkins or Lima managed to play the ball without lashing out at the markers tonight either.
Their dedication to finding new ways to cheat their way around the rules is commendable though. Their new tactic that they tried two or three times tonight of deliberately passing the ball into a grounded tackler needs to be looked at very quickly or it could become farcical. If they do it deliberately it should be play on.

Unusually I agree with you, the last one when O Loughlin ' placed ' the ball on Robys back was quite ridiculous
Plus you forgot to mention the pushing the head into the tackled players face tactic as well

| As I said on the Saints board. The difference between Wigan and Wire at the moment is that Wire can control their aggression, and when things get tough they keep their cool and defend fiercely whilst not taking it ''too far''. Wigan did not implode tonight like I thought when McIlorum got sent off, but some of the dirty tactics on show could easily have been punished, like Tomkins lashing out in the tackle and O'Loughlin's constant headhigh shots.

| The ridiculous thing is, a loss was probably the best result for us tonight, as now we shouldn't be playing Saints twice more in the playoffs, that would have been 6 derby matches in a season...

| Bit of a grubby game all round tonight. McIlorum really needs to control his moron streak. Oddly made me more confident though, to hold that match for so long with 12 men against 3rd place.

Who's mentioned anything like that? It was an awful shot from Mcllorum and deserves minimum 3 games.
I actually thought Wigan played extremely well. To go 3/4s of the game with a man down against 3rd in the league and only lose by a try takes guts.

| A more straightforward sending off you're never likely to see - late, high and deliberate; he's a talented lad, but appears to be seriously flawed in the attitude department - cost his team the game tonight, despite Stuart Fielding's idiotic comment during the post-match interview.
Aside from Wigan's niggly tactics and Saints poor execution near the line, it was quite an entertaining game for the neutral; decent crowd too - looked good on the telly.

Good shout, his kicking game was shocking, kicking for teritory when you are facing 12 men is a strange tactic. Although we lost last night I think I would be more worried if I was a saints fan than a wiganer, two or three years ago if we had a man sent off early in the 1st half saints would have put 40 on us no question and there would have been no contest, at one stage in the 2nd half last night it looked like wigan could win!

No chance of that!

Wigan coach Shaun Wane:
"I don't think the referee got it right. It looked like Micky Mac was committed. He's an important player and I want him playing for me next week. We'll go there and fight it if we have to. We feel we have a strong case.[/i
Disgraceful, but not surprising TBH!

| Yeah Wane is trying his best to get McIlorum a sending off sufficient decision. IIRC he said something along the lines of "he was sent off early in the game so that's a suspension in itself"
He wasn't committed, he had no need to make contact with the Saints player the ball had clearly already gone before McIlorum makes a movement toward making a tackle. It was high, dirty and from behind, similar to the Leon Pryce one on Sinfield a few years ago which IIRC he got 4 games for.

| Im a big fan of how Wigan have played over the last 3 years, very entertaining to watch, however i do think they are suffering from "big time charlie" syndrome. They have no right whatsoever to get the decisions from referees yet they are like Man Utd when decisions go against them and try to intimidate the official. I actually think James Child handed the game really well last night and you wont hear me saying that very often. Its not just One or two of them at it, it appears there is 5-6 of them who want to be in charge. Warrington are clear favs for the GF now in my opinion cos when the going gets tough they tough it out and tough it out legally not going in for all the messing around at the PTB trying to milk a pen ( Morning Mr Tomkins) or cheap shots.
Wane is not a good coach, he has inherited a very good squad from a previous coach, lets see how he goes next year when he loses some very good players. i expect Wigan to drop quite considerably next year and he will get found out. If im proved wrong so be it.
im all for defending your own players if as a quote has suggested he is trying to defend McIlorum but come on how can you defend the Indefendable, Sorry Shaun but McIlorum is a dirty little thug who got his just deserts last night

| Wane is the epitome of arrogance, his after match comments came across as a command to the RFL. I want Micky Mac playing next week and I want to play Leeds.
Fortunately not everthing is cherry and white and we don,t live in this distorted point of view of Wanes World.
