| 8 former/current Leeds players in that squad.
A big game for both teams. Hopefully Dunning's managed to make some progress with the side in training to improve our attack. I've a feeling it'll be another low scoring game where we struggle to play any rugby. Maybe we should race them in stock cars instead? Alas I shan't be there as I have a more enjoyable social engagement in the diary.

| For my sins, I’ll be there and it would be nice to see some entertaining rugby (from us if at all possible!)
We do make it hard work to want to go these days. I think most of us are going out of some feeling of duty and in hope we are entertained for our money.
some of our forwards have deserved to be sat out for a while. I know we don’t have the resources to ring the changes but some of them don’t deserve a guaranteed starting place on current showings.

| Holroyd, Mustapha, Baldwinson, Scurr, Crossley, Walker. At least 1, maybe 2 props are not going to be in the 17. Holroyd & Mustapha will be picked, Leeds wouldn't send them if assurances weren't made?
I'm going:
Baldwinson
Doyle
Holroyd
Walters
Wallace
Hallas
Lilley
Patton
Millar
Gill
Dawson-Jones
Foggin-Johnston
Hall
Flanagan
Scurr
Mustapha
Evans

| Newcastle have been pretty average this season, looks like they are in that transition of PT to FT.
As others have said, I think a few "untouchables" should be sit in the stands this week.
I expect us to win but it will be another stumble over the finish line. Saw Widnes (who have arguably been worse than us) hammer Whitehaven last weekend. We should have done the same with a big lead but the same old habits of putting the que on the rack and letting them back in it continued.
I do think there's a half decent team in us, we just need someone to come in and change the culture IMO

| Firstly, let it be accepted that Bongser is not a troll. His secondary support for The Bulls should have been noted by most regulars by now and, when he speaks of Leigh’s relative strength this season (pleased though it makes him), he is not crowing but merely making observations about teams that he has watched “in the flesh” this season.
Quote ="Bull Mania"Newcastle have been pretty average this season, looks like they are in that transition of PT to FT. '"
Newcastle are in tenth but on the same points as Bradford. Bongser was quite impressed by their performance at LSV, albeit against a team that was still short on numbers. No other side has scored 18 points or more at our HQ this season. No pushover.

Not sure The Bulls are putting the cue on the rack, more likely they don’t have the energy to walk as far as the rack. It has been documented plentifully on this forum that too many players are carrying too many pounds.
Agree with your last point Bull Mania. The new guy needs to come in sooner rather than later especially if Gledders is right for once.
FWIW (and hopefully unsurprisingly), Bongser hopes you win.

| Thought it was a weird one considering we loaned him from Huddersfield.
Didn’t realise Rob Butler had signed for Wakey either.
Anyway, Chester Butler was on the official SL Team Sheet, they must have got that wrong then.

| At 30-0 up I expected us to put the pressure on. Seems like we switched off and let them back into it pretty easy.
Anyone see what Holroyd was like and how the incident happened?

From what I saw he took the ball in on the last tackle and there seemed to be a bit of biff but up to then he was having a good game.

Indeed. Total control in the first half. Best half we’ve played all season. We looked good, especially our attacking kicks which were not just high to Gill.
2nd half, Newcastle had nothing to lose, started playing high risk rugby, some of it worked. All in all, a good game of rugby.
Didn’t see what triggered it, but Holroyd was like Brian McDermott back in the day, one punching players to the ground until the Newcastle half nipped in and rabbit punched him to the back of the head. Big ban coming, Rowan won’t be happy.

| OMG, short kicks behind the defensive line, offloads, support runners, quick(ish) PTB.... it was a bit like rugby league. There's the makings of a decent team. Given a few runners and an injection of urgency, Patton's passing looked different league and we created a bit of space. The Wallace try was the moment of the match for me, a beautiful short pass and Wallace put the burners on.
Mustapha at prop really speeded us up and Walker is an offload machine when given the chance and somebody stood near him. The only thing in Holroyd's favour is he seemed to be walking backwards to get away but he didn't miss. Other than that he looks a good prop in the making.
The sad thing was there was hardly anybody there. I've seen more at academy games.

According to Stuart Duffy on another platform Holroyd was on the wrong end of a Flanagan special. He did lose his tin in a spectacular way.
Game had everthing, decent RL, bit of biff, bit of jeopardy when DFJ was left out to dry a couple of times (aided and abetted by repeat penalties) and a heart breaker for them to finish them off. Left the ground smiling...I though I was going to be drug tested....
Moment of the match was Patton 'returning' the tee back to whomever brought it on. At one point it looked like he may have won of the match for the decision but the stadium clock is always wrong

Whats a Flanagan special?
How did Holroyd handle himself in the biff?
Short term his impending ban harms us with yet another suspension, long term, its good to see Toms got that bit of fire in him, as tremendous a prospect that he is, thats been questioned in the past.

| Well, I finally enjoyed a game AND we got a win as a bonus. We were helped by plenty of Newcastle errors, especially in the 1st half, but the team looked energised and far more up for it than in previous weeks. Offloads, grubber kicks, scoots from dummy half, and good defence (first half) - good rugby at last.
Only downside was a bit of dodgy defending down our right wing to let in a couple of quick Newcastle tries.
I do wonder what the Saturday evening kick off time did for the attendance, as the crowd really was pitiful.
Anybody seen or heard the official attendance figure?
