Seemed to be doing very well in the u'20s. 5 tries this year from a backrower. Unfortunately with our glut of back row forwards he was unlikely to get any first team game time, despite being in the squad.

Why we couldn't have a look at him instead of Dixon, knowing he was leaving, I'm not sure. The unfortunate thing is we will never know unless Barrow improve him to the level of Hill or Walmsley.

The article also says he was well thought of at Saints. That said, why did they not agree to allow him to go to Rochdale or Whitehaven under the new agreement.

I think this decision is more to do with the academy restructure than anything else. The first team has a glut of backrowers, and unless he was exceptional the club just couldn't fit him in anywhere. The club think he is a good prospect but he has come through a couple of years too early to replace TP and Wilkin.

Why is it not

Take 2012 season for instance. How many young players played in the first team? Hardly any. And only one had his debut. Whether Jones was a genuine talent or not, he was of the view that his chances to break through in the first team were low and I would agree with him. We are too busy signing old players, retaining old players, retaining foreign players, to provide much in the way of opportunity for our young players, particularly with the changes coming up in 2013.

So I don't think a player leaving automatically means that player wasn't good enough for Saints.

Did Greenwood and swift not make debut in 2012 gaskell and foster didnt play much for us in 2012 but both still at the club and these two will prob start every week next season

Not Greenwood, no. He made his debut last season. Swift, yes. I'd forgotten about him. But he only played a couple of games didn't he?

About 4, i think. Scored two hattricks, one in the cup, but both against widnes and then scored in the Hull away fixture. IIRC of course.

Looking forward to seeing Danny in a Raiders shirt...hopefully he can a big hit in the Championship ?
