I dont go on the Widnes forum mate but if thats the case then what i've heard is true.

Rejected several contract offers from us and rumours are that you have offered him a deal. Big hitter with a good work rate, he should develop well at Saints if he signs.

What position does he play?

Prop, although he could play second row given his body shape.

So if we can't afford Sam Burgess, I guess he's our second choice....

21, which is puzzling given he was in the reserves for Barrow on loan from Widnes reserves and only made it into their first team this year. Must be a late starter.

I thought he was younger than 21, as you say must be a late bloomer.

I've been impressed with him this year - the Vikings pack is soft as this year and he is one of the few who puts his hand up every week. Strong in defence and doesn't shy away from any work.

In the right environment he has the potential to be a very good player.

If James gets injured next year then our props will be bryn and ostik.

He has stood out for Widnes this year. He looks better than Sam Thompson so I guess there would be little point resigning him (as rumoured) when we can get Ostick.

I think everyone on here agrees that we could do with some props.

Ostick is a bit of an enigma really. He wasn’t deemed as good enough to continue here (the club were going release him) until they realised he still had another year left on his contract.

He has performed well though. He’s shown more aggression than both Ben Kavangh and Sam Thompson and his work rate and attitude has been spot on, which is more than I can say for Sam Thompson.

He lacks bulk though, and this can make his forward drives ineffective against a big pack. He’s no James Graham, and never will be. I’d say he’ll end up in the back row at some SL club or other in the future.

It is disappointing, if we lose yet another of our academy players, but we have a couple of young props waiting in the wings that are probably better than Ostick anyway so most Widnes fans, whilst disappointed, aren’t too fussed.

Good luck to him. Playing alongside a player like JG could be the making of him.

He’s lazy and switches off, so making constant unforced errors. He’s a big lad, but lacks aggression. His defence is woeful, even when he can be bothered to try it. Most of the trys against us have come when he and Kavanagh are on the field. We were much better when Gannon and Ostick were partnering.

I’d be more than grateful to any club that wants to take him off our hands.

Shizer and people think the likes of Bannister have bad influences off the pitch. Thompson beats them all, absolute penis!

I would have venom in my words to if a man came onto me in the shower, dont midn him doing it when I am dry, but not when I am getting a wash.

Ostick does seem to lack bulk but Mick Potter does see a young players physical development as a priority. Bryn Hargreaves has definitely developed since coming to Saints and was probably at a similar age as Ostick when he came.

Looking at Matt James who is on loan at Halifax from Bradford, a prop that is of Superleague quality should be much too good for the Championship. Ostick does not look anywhere near as good as James.
