| So what did we make of him at centre?
Great try from the scrum base, got the better of a good player in Johnson, defensively sound. Obviously not the classy desicion maker that gidley is, but good enough if we want to stay at the top end of the league??
What do we think?

Agreed with all your points there mate just needs to work on his decision making. Gilmour is a class player I just hope he doesnt get out of his pram because he isnt in the back row anymore.

| Pretty decent, but he will need to learn to pass to his winger. He made Talau look like Gidley.

lol kinda true but that comes with confidence in the position - I'm sure he'll do as good a job as Talau did. He'll never have the class that Gidley has but then again there arnt many that have.

I think it's a mixture of confidence in the position and confidence in his winger. You could see on a couple of occasions where there was a bit of an overlap he looked outside him and seemed to think twice about giving Armstrong the ball. With a more experienced winger outside him, or with some games alongside Armstrong under his belt, that might change.

He's potentially better than Talau as he actually has a bit more pace and ability to beat a man. Both have poor hands for outside backs though.

| Do you not think that maybe Gilly was under instruction not to expose Armstrong too much considering he was on debut

I would imagine he would already know being as he is vastly experienced. Saying that I would imagine Potter had a word too.

| I think he'll do a decent job in the centres this year, his defence is spot on and maybe running out wide he'll be able to create more holes, as we have said hopefully as the games go on he will be able to create more for his winger.

| I was impressed with Gilmour, even in the first half when we wasn't playing too well. When he had the ball, he looked dangerous and made a couple of half breaks. He doesn't seem to want to pass, but he looks likes he going to be solid and made a fool of Johnson a few times. I thought he played well, probably our best player in the first half.

| Difficult to judge when he was only playing opposite Paul Johnson, who is an inferior 2nd rower playing out of position. Gilly probably wont get that much space round the outside of another centre at all this year.
It will also be a different task defending against a proper centre as the season progresses. It was Huddersfield who cut him to shreds in the game he played at centre last year, so will be interesting on Sunday to see how he copes.
Needs to have more faith in his winger, although he was hopefully trying to protect Armstrong a bit - once Meli gets in, he will be able to use him more (or as the season progresses and Armstrong develops into a first team winger).
It also looks like he has been working on his speed a bit more, because he looked a lot leaner and faster than in previous years.
Overall, a good start.

| If he had been a new signing from Aus, we would have been saying what a great addition he is to the team after his try, but cos he is just Gilly, he is taken for granted. Top performance from him.

| He played well and looked dangerous in attack. Just needed to use his winger more often.

Absolutely spot on,
sometimes I wonder if people are watching the same game as me.
He could of made 1 obvious pass to the winger that he didnt, but it was the wingers first ever SL game, his defence is one of the best, and he started the come back with a try
Couldnt ask for any more could we?
