| Very poor, a combination of poor selection and poor attitude. They and most of us fans thought we'd turn up and beat them easily. We had no idea that Salford had a performance like that in them.
Cunningham will learn from it. The lads will learn from it. Very harsh but necessary lesson.

| Is luke Walsh the softest ever saints player. . . . ?
He plays the game like he's terrified of contact. Walking the ball out for that drop out, good grief that annoys me.

| KC basically admitting he's not got a clue there. Admitted he knew they were complacent and couldn't do a damn thing about it. He's called the player's attitudes into question, said he asked for a response and got nothing. If that's the case, there isn't much of a future there really is there?
A lot of you on here mocked me when I said we'd struggle to make the top four. As poor as the rest of Super League is, we're now well amongst the middle of the table sides. If this poor attitude continues, we'll struggle to make the top 6 this season.
Our recruitment? Utterly pathetic. Jack Owens isn't a St Helens player. He's not a Super League player and whoever made the decision to sign him needs looking at. Even more worrying is that we're chasing another Widnes player rather than being ambitious. At best this season we'll have a season like Warrington and Hull did last year. What we won't do is recruit like they have.
I said it before the season started that Saints fans need to lower our expectations. We're not capable of winning trophies anymore. We've got a squad of average players and only Roby and Walsmley with any real quality. When either is out we'll lose, if both were out I'd guarantee it. Top 6 would be an achievement for this team.

Said on sky that he could smell complacency before the match.

I'd say Turner and Tasi are just as bad.

Will he? Clueless as a coach for me, it's going to be particularly painful watching us struggle under KC and watching him destroy his own legacy.

I for one don't think we will make top 4. To many teams have recruited well and we haven't.
Sky was saying post game how the dry weather will benefit us but I disagree, we are no longer a dry track team, we are wet weather team who then can grind a win out.
Tbe days of champagne rugby are well gone.

| Just heard the result, did Fages get on the pitch or was he sat on his backside like Burns. Looks like LMS and Greenwood for centres next week because KC is totally committed to proving at all costs that Turner is a no 6.............not.

| Quote ="St pete"Yes Salford definitely title contenders now. The bookies stopped taking bets on it.
If you read my original post, you will see I'm not having a pop at Salford as they have shown us up in every department and we'll worth the win and the score. I'm just pointing out to NickyKiss that Wigan loss to cas is different to our loss tonight.'"
Cas were/are a better side but I wouldn't write Salfird off either. They've made some shrewd signings and after a hiccup last week (against a hugely fired up and hyped Hull team) they showed it tonight. Sometimes you start games slowly and you get burned. It reminded of our game with Cas for sure but I really do feel it may be the kick up the backside you need.
You've a few lads to come back in including your best player and leader so I wouldn't be writing the season off yet. I don't know what KC's issue is with Burns but you'd have to think he'd have been a better option at 9 then the young kid tonight (who had a mare).

From memory he came on after about 55 minutes and did absolutely nothing.
You missed it? Great for you, you can pretend we're still a good side. The first half was the worst I've ever seen Saints play. It was so poor that there really have to be questions tomorrow. I'm sure the club won't sack KC, but it was one of those performances that require action. Something has to be done, whether it's a new captain, an apology from the players or a change of tactics and ideas. They can fix it all by ripping into Sydney Roosters next week, but I doubt they'll have the ability to prevent them from scoring.

| The blame for tonight lies mainly with Owens and the pack (as well as Cunningham obviously) if you ask me. From our forwards we had poor line speed, awful control of the PTB speed and consistently put on our backs all night. Even more criminal than this, we were out-enthused.
With regards to Owens, I'm generally pretty reserved with judging players after a couple of matches, but I don't think he's a fullback. Looking beyond his obvious missed tackles and knock ons, his numbering up was really poor. We consistently got our numbers wrong and the blame for that has to lie with your fullback. He's also too sidewards on kicks, which only really works if you're absolutely rapid and can beat players consistently on the outside. In the first half he took a kick on about the 35 after a (rare) good defensive set, went most of the width of the pitch and made maybe 5 metres forward. If he had been really direct he'd have got over halfway and we finish the set on Salford's line. Instead he goes sidewards, gets dominated by an aggressive defensive and finishes with a slow PTB in a corner, meaning we don't get over halfway till 3rd.

I,ve just heard we were kicking on the 3rd and 4th tackle again, the defence and kicking game having completely disappeared from last weeks game. Sounds like the "Jekyll and Hyde" saints has resurfaced. Is Charnock injured because he should have been playing no 9.

Yeah, it was ridiculous. Kicking on the 3rd tackle, ball would land in O'Brien's arms just inside his own half. They'd then have six tackles in our half and for most of the first half were making a break off pretty much every play. They could have scored more in the first half than they did. There really was only Walmsley that can hold their head up and say they tried.

I think KC would resign once he knows he's not going to be good enough.

You, you were excellent and look much improved over previous seasons. Hopefully you can give poor Marwan a break this season and have a decent year. If SL could get Salford, Hull and Catalans all up challenging for the trophies it would greatly improve the competition. It'll be interesting to see how you go over the next couple of weeks. My take on tonight, as good as you were, is that more if it was to do with our coaching and attitude, but if you can back up tonight it'll disprove that.

| Quote ="St pete"I can understand KC wants to keep JT and Walsh together but if you loose a player then you sometime have to change the team. Putting LMS is shocking when we have a centre in Turner at 6. We then have a 6 in fages sat on the bench and one in burns sat at home.
Surely much easier to put Turner at centre, Burns at 6 and fages at 9. We look all over the place.'"
Was JT actually playing?
As they say what a shocker by the whole team. They soon sussed us out; number up on one side - mainly their right and find out we had no full back there. The one from the scrum was absolutely disgraceful. 7 against 2.
Burns and JT avoided any contact. Thompson was out of his depth. I could go on and on and on.
The Roosters could fly out on the same day and still trounce us based on this performance.
And... well done Salford.

| Walmsley head and shoulders your best player, you'd better hope he has a mare next week because if the NRL come sniffing and he decides to give it a go you're in deep trouble.

| I love this from KC:
Quote "It was a horrible start to the game, completely and utterly a mentality thing. We just didn't approach the game with the right mindset.
"You can smell an air of complacency about the place just before the game. I spoke to my staff about it, I was a little bit worried about it but, once they're ready to cross the line, it's a little late'" .
If he thinks its just a mental attitude he has a problem with his own attitude to coaching. Exactly what is his job? He could smell complacency - so I ask again what the f is his job if not at least part motivation ESPECIALLY as he knew it was there.
Read it and weep.
