| The fans of this club are getting worse every season.
Give it 2 seasons and they'll be bagging a player 5 minutes into his debut.

Brown doesn't need to worry, our idiot fans will do that for him.

That seems a bit strange given Gaskell's somewhat impressive success rate at kicking goals, even under significant pressure.
I think we need to stick with Gaskell; we at least have evidence of his ability to kick goals. So far, Turner seems distinctly average at the job and we can't just go on technique; we have to go on evidence.

You can judge a player before he even signs for a club though. Turner isn't some newb from the academy. I've probably seen him play more times than Gary Wheeler.

| Had one Brainfart, but other than that, he has never been a poor tackler in his first few games for saints.

| No complaints tonight, bar the dropsies at the end of the first half. He's got the physical capabilities to be a dominant centre, hopefully Brown can work some magic on him. I'd really like to see him have more of a go around the ruck, if he got clear off Roby he could eat the ground up.

This is true, I think he is more comfortable playing at Saints than he was at Hull. Not the turnstile made out by the Hull fans, maybe he fits into the Saints set up better, time will tell.
Its good to see that Brown is not afraid to trial the back line options, can't see Makinson and Gaskell coming back into the side just yet barring injuries, they will have to bide there time.

I don't think the problem is his tackling. When I've seen him it's his numbering up and decision making that's at fault. There have been a few occasions this season already where teams have strolled in on his side.

You are of course right but his main issue has been his positional defence which was fine tonight.
Hope he keeps it up.

I noticed that too.
Turner is such a surprise, I really was expecting a waste of space.

| I think Turner has done ok this year. He's not done anything special but he looks pretty dangerous with the ball and could be a strike centre for us providing he gets good ball.
His defence has been ok as well. He's not missing tackles like the hull fans said he would.
He's got the makings to be a good super league centre. He's big, fast, athletic and good foot work.

Everything above is what i expected.
I think many fans listened too much to the Hull fans, rather than looked with their own eyes.
I remember saying not to expect a world beater, but that i thought we had got a player who would fit in better to the Saints setup than Shenton did and therefore offer us more.
Interesting about his move to left centre. Makes me wonder if the long term plan is to have Makinson playing right centre, with Josh Jones providing cover in the backrow on the right hand side.
I suspect many are unaware that Makinson is a centre by trade, and pretty much played most of his academy rugby there.
A Makinson, Turner combination would inject pace into both three quarter lines.

I think Makinson problem is he can't beat a man. He's not got anything in his locker that would worry any team in attack. IMO that's a big problem for a centre .

I think thats harsh without seeing him perform at centre at a high level.
for example he scored a hatrick last week playing in the centres for Rochdale.
Makinson possesses pace, and that worries any defender.
I would like to see Saints try him there against the likes of Wakefield to see how it turns out.
Better to try and fail than never to have tried at all.

Pace does worry defenders but IMO hes not that fast. Don't forget mate I've actually trained and run with tommy. He's fast but not super fast.
Does he have a step ? No
Does he have good footwork ? No
Can he knock players off ? No
I like tommy but IMO he's a winger.

I know he isnt super fast. However he would be a touch quicker than most centres out there which i think could help stretch opposition backlines, as he should be able to get on the outside of the defending centres.
This is all hypothetical though and the only way of truly finding out either way is by playing him there and seeing how he shapes up.

I think we need a different option instead of Jones. Hasn't really impressed me, he just seems to be another solid player.

I have a clear memory of him turning Sam Tomkins inside out during the playoffs at the DW in 2011. I also remember him haring down the pitch at LP to score an almost full lengther against Salford I think it was. He's fast enough for my liking and certainly a ton faster than Gardner or Meli.
