Oxford RLFC v Hunslet RLFC
Referee: L Moore
Touch Judges: J Page N Lawrenson
Reserve Referee: T Owen
M Com: D Milburn
You will see as we go on that this is not the week to make jokes about pie-eaters. We all hate Wigan, but obviously not as much as we hate Leeds.
Referee: Liam Moore (Wigan)
Previous Oxford game:
30/04/2017 - Barrow 64 Oxford 14 (penalties 6-12 against)
He was the referee when a Canada goose stopped play in the Keighley v Bradford warm-up match this year. Not sure if he did anything heroic like showing it a red card (well, you’d have to wouldn’t you?). Last week refereed Batley v Hull KR. On Thursday of this week he is touch judge for Featherstone v Halifax in the Challenge Cup. Has previously refereed on tour in Canada:
Touch Judge: Jason Page (Wigan)
Several previous Oxford games as touch judge, the last one being away to London Skolars last season. As I recall, I was unable to find out anything much about him that time, but fortunately since then he has won something - Wigan Referee Society’s chairman’s award. He’s the one holding the shield:
Touch Judge: Nathan Lawrenson (Wigan)
Was reserve referee for a couple of Oxford games in 2015, but this is the first time we have seen him as a touch judge. This is quite a recent photo, and I can only assume that he’s about to put this vase on his sideboard:
Reserve Referee: Tom Owen (Leigh)
Has been touch judge at several Oxford games, the last of which was away to Swinton in 2015. This is the second time he has been reserve referee.
Match Commissioner: Dave Milburn (York and Selby)
Comes from Hertfordshire but moved to York many years ago to teach. Also took up refereeing, and progressed to touch judge in the professional game. Now retired both as teacher and referee, but gets all the big match commissioner jobs, like the 2013 World Cup and also last year’s Grand Final (although it looks like he forgot to check that no-one stole the trophy).
