Define "good job" - better than unlucky cup semi finalists and reasonable chance of top 8?

Agreed.
Would have still liked to see him here even though I couldn't see him and GH getting along.

How much do you want to bet on that one bats?
The guy's rubbish. There is a reason he is currently in charge of a championship side and turned down for several superleague sides since his Wigan abomination. There is also a very good reason he was the 3rd choice, yes 3rd choice for Cas.

| I'd be surprised if he didn't make them more consistent and competitive. I would say he'll probably turn them into top 6 material rather than the inconsistent and defensively leaky cannon fodder they currently are.
He will also put a lot more structure in place in attack and relieve some of the pressure on Chase.

| Darth Millward going to Wigan was like Cloughie going to Leeds Utd. I wouldn't judege him on that particular bit of his cv.
Good move for Cas, glad to have the guy back in SL.

I'll be gobsmacked if they make top 8 with him at the helm. Matterson was doing a good job, and for me Millward will take it backwards.

Are you serious with that one? wasn't that the major issue with why it fell apart at Saints. Yes, I know he had the loose hands thing, but they were looking for an excuse at the time as he had come to an end. Saints were superb attacking team, but off the cuff with no structure, and therefore no plan B when it fell apart.

| The jury is still out for me over whether Millward has still got what it takes. In hindsight he would have been much preferable to Lance as a replacement for Murray, but success came our way eventually under Smith and McClennan.
I'd prefer someone at Leeds with more up-to-date experience of working in the NRL.

I remember Murray recommended Millward and Lance as his potential replacement. IIRC neither of them had a lot of experience at the time but as Lance had spells at Adelaid and Perth (not 100% on that though) and Millward had a a year or 2 at Leigh GH went for Lance. I suppose it was understandable at the time but in hindsight was one of GH's worst decsions during his tenure.

IIRC one came with his salary part paid as a legacy of the SL war in Australia while the other went to St Helens.
The Leeds CEO has never been noted for looking a gift horse in the mouth.

It's a fallacy that there was no attacking structure at Saints under Millward. He got them using a number of different ball carrying options and dummy runners, so the opposition never knew who was going to get the ball. A little like Wigan under Maguire, but not as obvious.
Saints had a much better squad then than Cas do now, but to say it was all off the cuff is simply not true.

Although when refs were told to put an end to quick tap penalties it did take away perhaps Millward's most successful attacking strategy and more than once had Sean Long flapping like a grounded halibut while he had to actually wait for the defence, sorry, referee to get set.

| Saints were galloping backwards when Millward got sacked, then galloped forwards the year after with Anderson.
I have a feeling his time has been and gone.
2002 - 1st & GF win (breaching the salary cap . . . .)
2003 - 4th, 13 points behind Bradford, beaten 3 times by Wigan in SL
2004 - 5th, 15 points behind Leeds, 2 losses and a draw against Wigan in SL
2005 - Sacked, with another loss to Wigan thrown in beforehand.
2006 - Saints win everything there is to win, easily.
