| =#8000FFYes, just like Cas, Leeds failed to stop any chants, that is what Cas were fined for (not the actual context of the chants, by 15 people) so using the same precedent, Leeds should be fined for failing to attempt to stop the chanting aimed at James Graham because it was in an offensive manner and a failure to put a stop to it is against RFL operational rules.

| I heard some idiot shout "you should've gone to Specsavers" to the gentleman officiating. I find this highly offensive being short sighted myself and I feel compelled to write a very strong letter to the Leeds club,so much so I plan to pay for a pigeon as soon as the post office opens on monday morning.

| Poor lambs, they're a club with a history of supporters using racial and homophobic abuse, both of which are illegal in law (and we're not just talking "guidelines or "policies"icon_wink.gif, they've been hauled before the RFL for it and some of their supporters just can't see where its all gone wrong.

Mmmm ok but Section 5 of the public order act refers to , threatening abusive or insulting, harassing alarming distressing, words, actions or signs. In a public place,
but dont let that cloud your judgement, BTW your accusing a club of racism and implying that they have been prosecuted of that, Do you have any proof of that ?
If not as a mod i think you should read the AUP dont you i.e
1.2. Messages that are in contradiction with British law, or which promote such activity, are prohibited on this site.
1.2a. Legal action
* This covers posting content that is libelous or racist, or which risks legal action being taken against the site.
* Under British libel laws the burden of proof is on the defendant so we will consider anything potentially defamatory as libelous.

With particular emphasis on where I accused the club and where I implied that they have been prosecuted.
And as for reminding me of the AUP - are you trying to deny that a certain section of the Castleford support use anti-semitic chants on many occasions when we play your team ? You'll be trying to deny that your clubs PA announcer did so once as well I suppose ?
Like I said in my earlier post, " they're a club with a history of supporters using racial and homophobic abuse" a section of your crowd has brought shame upon your club and of the sport in general and the RFL have been quick to take action, its just unfortunate that some knuckleheads amongst you continue to ignore those facts and instead bleat about conspiracys and try and divert attention.

| I noticed on their website they have changed the date and venue of their game against Crusaders.
"The Tigers Engage Super League clash with the Crusaders has a new date and a new venue.
The game will now take place on Sunday the 25 July with a 2.00pm Kick Off and will be played in South Wales at Neath. "
It doesn't say which year though so I'm guessing 1976. Plenty of time for them to get home for 'Til Death Us Do Part and The Dick Emery Show!

| I don't think anyone is suggesting that the homophobic abuse aimed at Gareth Thomas at Wheldon Road was acceptable.
However, the charges levelled were that Castleford failed to take steps to prevent the chanting, and that when it did occur the club did nothing to try and stop it. The fact that the abusive chanting was regarding a player's sexuality was irrelevant. In this case, there is an argument that the chanting directed towards James Graham (regardless of it's basis) is also in breach of the RFL's 'Respect' policy (as is the abuse of the referee) and therefore equally as detrimental to the game. Castleford were fined for failing to take appropriate steps to prevent abusive chanting and the failing to take adequate steps to stop it when it occured. Therefore, it should be expected that Leeds Rhinos take steps to prevent abusive chanting before the game, and then make public announcements when the abusive chanting of James Graham began. As far as I can tell, neither of these things happened and therefore the same procedures should apply.
Personally I love giving opposition player abuse on the premis that it is generally expected and made in jest (How many times have I called McDermott a dirty one-eyed cyclops; Senior a bald money-grabber; Harris a sheep sh***er?) but the RFL have now set a precedent and should therefore apply the same rules to all.

Thank you for a reasoned argument.
Your only flaw is in your second paragraph when you say that the sexuality reference in the Castleford incident is irrelevant, its not, its actually very relevant.
Its very relevant because its illegal, its not that it simply goes against some sporting body guidelines or codes of conduct, its actually illegal, if you stood outside The Skyrack and shouted homophobic abuse at a passer-by then a police officer who heard it would arrest you - thats why its not irrelevant.
The RFL have set a precedent in taking action against clubs who attract a small section of law-breakers and unfortunately your own club has attracted a small section of those sort of people for many years, you know it, your club know it, (your club actually employed someone once who partook in anti-semitic abuse on the PA system), and unfortunately the RFL know it - maybe they've just been waiting for this opportunity to come along and your small section of knuckleheads handed the clubs a[irs[/ie to the RFL on a plate ?

That's fair enough. Can I ask you a serious question though. How would you feel if your club started to attract homophobes and racists who'd identified an environment where they were able get away with shouting hateful abuse at minorities?
