| I've long held the conviction that those who were good at sports at school and who went on to have professional careers in their chosen sports tended to also be the big daft lads with little ability for using the few brain cells inside their heads.
These two fit the bill perfectly...

Tommy Smith of Salford is another who springs to mind.
And, erm, there's another, name on the tip of my tongue, used to live in Middleton...

| This brings a question to mind......
I could name far too many ex, and current players in both Super League and the national leagues for my liking that use recreational drugs.
Do people think this is acceptable? Are the two year bans appropriate for those who get caught? Should clubs clamp down on it? I know of 1 particular grand final team from the past that had numerous players who were regular users, and who were advised by their clubs nutritionalist on how to flush their systems to avoid detection.
Thoughts?

No. Everyone over a certain weight, and under a certain IQ has issues with either alcohol or drugs. Didn't you know.

| And some who portray an image in the press as being whiter than white. These are the ones that worry me the most, imagine the uproar in the press if one of our 'pin up boys' or 'model proffesionals' were caught out.

| I bet Adam Fogerty was a big daft lad at school.
Now, he's made a career portraying that on the silver screen.

I did an article [url=http://saints.rlfans.com/home/node/3on Leon Pryce[/url and referenced to the fact a lot of the players we have in the sport would have ended up wondering what to do with their lives if it wasn't for being able to play rugby.
The issue is taming the beasts, so it doesn't become endemic like the NRL.

| ex player, who's father told him there was more to life than rugby league and got him a plumbing apprenticeship,
he started on £3 a week and hated his boss who was arrogant and never spoke to him.
One day after picking his £3 up, he made his debut in a televised match, won & pocketed £25 for doing something he loved.
Monday morning his boss rushed out of the office "good morning, I saw you on grandstand on saturday." and the next time you see me will be on grandstand aswell, now fu~k off.
forward 30+ years he was leant on a shovel telling this tale to a plumber who was pocketing over a grand a week.
A self confessed big daft lad.
