I will be moving to leeds in the next month to start a new job and would appreciate some local knowledge on the property market. I am looking to rent a 1 bed flat for the next year or so, ideally paying in between £400 and £500 for something with parking. It seems that in the city centre you either get a ridiculously small studio flat for that price or you end up paying £600 plus every month for something a bit more substantial. If any one could suggest other areas which they would recommend renting a flat from with easy access to the centre, it would be much appreciated

Get on the web, and check out findaproperty.com or theres a few others knocking around. The city centre isnt the be all and end all though. There are some nice places skirting the city centre within easy walking distance of the city.

Chapel Allerton might be worth checking out.

I wouldn't recommend a city centre flat/apartment, they dont have the best record for crime etc.

Chapel A is a nice area with plenty of boozers and bars

You can rent mine in Chapel Allerton from mid to late May.

Foxhill Court is a good option. In easy reach of Headingley but not littered with students. There's about 50 flats and usually 1 or 2 up for rental at any one time. Rents are c £650 for a two bedroom, so you might need to get a flat mate but you'll get a garage.

5 mins walk from shops and bars. 10min bus ride into town.

They do look really expensive from the outside though but nice
