Better to let the lads go if they aren't seen as future first-teamers. With recent signings it would appear that Leeds actually want the 'reserves' to actually live up to their name. Wouldn't be at all surprised if one or two of them go well elsewhere - c'est la vie.

This issue with releasing them. The club say that they believe a couple of them could progress into super league players in the future, and we will be monitoring them. We are only releasing because of the new rules for the reserves.

If we really had the partnership with Souths that the club had us believe. Would it not be a better idea to send the best two of these out to Aus for a year, and see how they develop? This obviously is not necessarily Souths first team.

We keep hearing that if player so and so went to Aus he would come back a better player. Well surely that would work with youngsters also. Therefore if we really do think any of these released had any potential why not try that route?

I guess its a big ask for a 18/19 year old, to relocate for 2 years etc. We could also look at the other links we have closer to home, like York and Whitehaven (I think but it could be one of the other cumbrians)

I can't see it being just related to the under 20 comp. next season.

Wigan will probably keep the majority of their current reserve side as only Pryce, Flanagan, Holland and Gee will be over age for next season.

No, our reserves in general are pretty young. It's just that these players have been around a fair few years now and the club probably dont see any sence in keeping them if there isnt really any future at the club. Plus look at the reserve table. It doesnt lie.

Was going to mention that - haven't our 'reserves' or whatever they are called being getting smacked on a pretty regular basis this year? That would tend to suggest a number are simply not as good as the opposition.

WRT young players going to Aus, you really want to be sending the best at 16 or 17 I would have thought. I would expect most kids would see it as an amzing chance to live in Aus for a year, not some kind of trial.

A lot of these kids though are in continuing education while on scholarship programmes to give themselves a shot at a decent career if they don't make it as a full time rugby league player.

It's asking a lot for them to put that on hold and spend a couple of years in another country with no guarantees it will benefit them in the long run.

I'm sure that they have schools and/or FE institutions in Australia as well.
On a similar theme, since the much hyped link between the club & the poly (sorry Leeds Met Uni) when a number of players undertook degree courses I wonder if any other players are studying? Ryan Hall springs to mind as an obvious candidate but I'd hope that there are others with a modicum of intelligence who may benefit also.

They do, but as someone who has done a fair bit of work with overseas educated jobseekers in the UK, the qualifications are not as easily transferrable as they should be.

As a for example I dealt with someone who had been at the equivalent level of an NHS matron in Israel for 20 years who would have had to retrain to work in the NHS over here as a nurse.
