Exactly - I think he's been signed for a specific reason, if he can be calm controlled and lead the team around without being flashy he could be a decent signing, the stick he has been getting is way OTT

| He's obviously not terrible. To play anywhere near the NRL, you have to be a good player. He's just not exciting at all, and the other question is why sign him when there's been other halves that seem better on the market - Tyrone May and Mitchell Pierce being good examples.
The other side is how can HKR have spine players of Parcell, Litten, Abdull, Lewis, May, Milnes, Hiku and the lad from Cas for next year, but we look so light contrastingly. Not all those are world beaters, but it's great depth in those positions to have. Hiku has been in great form for the Cowboys for the last 2 years too.

| Yep, hopefully he can be a calming, controlling influence that we thought Sezer would be.
And he's currently playing in a decent NRL side - he can't be that terrible.
Let's give the kid a chance guys.

| While not wowed by the signing of Frawley let's give the guy a chance. He seems to want to come and at 28 has relatively low miles on the clock so potentially less likely to pick up injuries. If he's replacing Sezer who on paper is the better player but has only fleetingly performed it is probably on less money and he has something to prove and all the reports describe him as a team player.
The key is what happens now and if Frawley is part of a wider jigsaw with bigger names still to arrive and full cap plus marquee spots used. If that's the case then he could be a useful signing however if its him and Myler with a couple more uninspired signings still to come in and the cap wasted with no obvious marquees filled then all criticism will be fully justified. We need a couple of x factor players to take us to the next level.

Mitchel piearce will be 35 next year and wants to go home.
Id have taken May but he’s not the same type of player as Frawley.

| Frawley is a half back in a side that has made the play offs in the NRL despite having a maverick coach in Stewart. One thing is certain he will be an improvement on Sezer who has been a terrible signing. He needs time to show what he can do but in order to do that he needs a pack of forwards to deliver him a platform. The likes of Oldeski and Bentley need to up their game significantly and Cameron Smith needs to stay out the plays.
Hopefully more signings to come - hopefully the likes of Myler and Donaldson are fringe players not weekly starters.

Agree, I think Donaldson gives everything so I respect him for that. Personally I would move Myler on.

| Donaldson already is a fringe player, he barely played when we had a fully fit squad.
Myler can still do a job at fullback but with Miller incoming, I imagine he will be a fringe player also.

| I think Myler would probably be glad to be more of a fringe player, he's no spring chicken (in RL player terms) and it could maybe prolong his career a year or two if he isn't playing every week

| Myler is a good player to have on the books. Great attitude, does whatever is asked of him, rarely if ever out with niggly injuries and can cover a number of positions.

Think he'd make a great bench option. If we don't get a hooker I'd let O'Connor and Johnson fight it out, but only play one of them as neither brings any real difference from the bench. Myler, on the other hand, provides cover for all the spine positions.

| I'm hoping next year O'Connor does the first 20 and CJ the second.
Jarrods work rate is excellent abd with a full preseason and work on distrfrom PtB he will get better.
CJ just needs game time to see where he's going skill wise.

At the end of next year I think they'll be shopping for a hooker. By all accounts they were in for Levi this year, so it's clearly in their thoughts and rightly so in my opinion.

Fine if you want mid table mediocrity. Time to move him on, Austin would have been let go at this season’s end, I see no difference between the two players. They both have had decent careers at the top level, no doubt they can possibly squeeze one or two more seasons in elsewhere. If we want to build a top four team it won’t be around slow and aging players.

| Iirc myler is still on contract for next year. Austin wasn't.
So letting Myler see out his last year as a back up isn't the end of the world.
We already have to find a 7 ,prop and centre.

I realise Myler has one year left on his contract, might be able to do a deal with someone to offload him. When it come to money there is always a solution. Just imagine Myler coming on midway through the second half in a tight playoff game against a fast and aggressive three quarter line. I think not.

I dont think he will be used an interchange, he either starts of doesn't play, unless hes back up 9 if theres an injury.

I agree but it depends at what cost - we know it’s hard to balance the books under salary cap etc. So does retaining “nice to have” players like Myler, Donaldson, I would include Bentley in that / does that mean we have less money when we’re trying to retain a Sam Walters?
We have been guilty of hanging on to dead wood well
Past it’s sell-by date for years. I’m all for being human and having a happy camp with good people but I think we often get the balance wrong and end up nearly getting relegated or struggling mid table for years….

We've got rid of tloads of dead wood since RS arrived.
Bentley is a good player, let him go and it's another player we need to replace and if replaced would need to be better than him and maybe with a higher wage, same with Fusi. We've got to concentrate on the areas that need most work RE recruitment.
