Watkins has got to make the step up sooner or later. He has had more game time this season than last he will be ready with another pre-season under his belt.

It alright having a decent right centre but if he hasnt got a good wide back rower along side him he wont get the service and opportunities that Senior is getting and that is where our problem lies imo. Instead of recruiting a top class centre get a top class back rower that can give Watkins and Scotty some space and good service.

I think so too and with that 'come and sign me article' before last Friday's game I would not be surprised, but think it could involve a swap deal with Wakey?

I doubt cas would accept it though anyway unless they really do need as much dosh as possible for their alleged new ground!!

I hope its not true, as good as a player Shenton is, I would rather he stayed at Castleford because hes home grown talent for them, and is one of the most infleuntial players too their squad.

With the new signings we have made in the last couple of weeks, unless Bailey shows a dramatic turn in form I think we can safely say he is out of here when out of contract. That contract ends end of next season.

Nobody would pay a transfer fee for Bailey, knowing they can have him for free end of next season.

Shenton is now an international and besides Senior is the highest rated British centre in Super League right now. Ahead of the over rated Gleeson, who has gone previously for a higher transfer fee, and only this season, despite coming out of contract went for half that sum.


For what its worth, I dont think that rumour is true, as I dont for one minute think that Cas would sell Shenton.

I was told £120k for Shenton straight cash deal and that is a done deal.

Shenton doesn't really thrill me. Ellis was obvious class, Shenton may or may not be able to step up in a big team.

I think he's got more skill than atkins but isn't as powerfull,i'd welcome him but as has been mentioned i doubt cas would sell!!

Shenton dosen't dominate his position on the field like Senior or Gidley does.He still for mine has long way to go before he's a top centre.We are in a credit crunch and therefore cannot see GH parting with £200k plus Bailey.
IIRC the rumoured fee for Ellis who when signed from Wakefield(who was a far player than Shenton is now) was about £125k.
£120K looks about right to me.

Ellis was a completely different player to Shenton, and his overall fee was higher than that, based on the friendlies.

Wakefield offered Atkins to Leeds for £150k plus Kirke. Shenton is far better than Atkins and whilst I am not a lover of Kirke, you could argue he is worth more than Bailey at the moment.

Forget Senior and Gidley, they are not relevent as both will be out of the game in the next 12-24 months. its about the next generation.

Shenton is regarded by most in the game as the best English Centre other than Senior. If any centre was going to get a big transfer fee paid for them it would be him. You also have to make way for the fact that Cas do not need to sell. The only issue that could throw a spanner in the works is if Shenton demanded to leave, which would then put a buying club in a better position. Which is an issue Wakey had to deal with on the Ellis front, becasue Gareth told them he wanted to move.
