According to todays Daily Express we missed out on him on a short term deal from the Canterbury Bulldogs and that we are set to sign Dene Halatau. Also states that it looks like were giving up on Eastwood.

Halatau is injured at the moment but if we were to sign him he's a good solid back rower who can cover centre and 9!! Halatau played at 9 for NZ in the test against the Aussies a couple of months back, i've also seen him play hooker, in the centres and the back row for Wests Tigers this season. He okay but i would like to see a quality specialist centre and a prop/back rower added to the team, Halatau is more of a utility and plays mostly off the bench which is something we dont need IMO. Diskin is covering hooker and back row ATM so what would be the point in bringing Halatau in unless Disko is off?

Halatau is 5ft 8 and 14 stone not big enough IMO if he is to play in the pack if disco is still here. With it been discos testimonial I can't see him going.

Maybe but i hope we get a quality 2nd rower in, Halatau's utility could be usefull to cover for injuries in a few different positions but i would rather we get Eastwood or somebody similar, David Fa'alogo who's signed for Hudds would of been a good signing IMO.

It would of been nice to get pritchard in the 1st place but with the new visa controls unless he's off france i doubt we'll see him super-league now

Great player on his day is Pritchard but seems to be injured alot this season, not out for long periods but every few weeks he picks up some sort of injury and misses a game or two.
If he could stay injury free i'd love to see him at Leeds.

Halatau's a hooker or loose forward - makeshift centre at best. The only reason for signing him would be to add depth and cover for one of the centre positions. If he were to be the first choice centre we may as well sign a 'proper' one - i.e. someone who actually plays there ona regular basis and looks good.

There not kids. Ones 22 years old, and the others played 16 games this year.

They certainly wont want to be playing a full season in reserves next year.

I have long stated our problem was Prop/backrow and the lack of depth. I think the last two weeks gives us a bit of depth there, and pretty much sorted.

We do however most definately need a key centre signing to replace Smith. Hopefully it wont be Atkins. I liked the idea of Millard.

If it does happen it will make me think if there is any structured plan in place regarding the centres. The way Senior is performing at the moment he could be going for another 2 seasons at centre. With Millard in the opposite centre spot and staying there for atleast 2 seasons where does that leave the trio of Watkins, Gibson and Coady? To have one or two back-up centres is fine but to have 3 is a bit too far imo.

I wouldn't be surprised to see coady at least out on loan in championship 1 Gibbo is OOC but also covers wing and FB at a push if he's retained plus he's played a couple of games in the backrow for the reserves that just leaves watkins who also covers wing!

Senior will not be playing past 2010, that is a cast iron guarantee, straight from the horses mouth himself. He may well go play a couple of seasons of Union after, but not another of League.

If Watkins and Coady were ready they would be playing now. There is not much difference playing wise between now and Easter next year.

We need a centre to replace Smith, who will fill Seniors boots from end of 2010. The other centre position shoudl be filled by Watkins and Coady, depending on development.

Both however, will still probably get opportunities next season regardless.

I agree with Gotcha that we need to be looking at bringing in a new centre in from elswhere in SL or if pushed the NRL, however, I do think it should be Atkins!

I wouldn't rule Atkins out either, reminds me of Senior in his Sheffield days.
