| One real positive is it looks like we played until the end unlike many games last season, keep up the fitness and onward and upward.

| Really good first performance and really cant say a bad word about anyone who played and despite changing the team around a lot we always seemed organized which really shouldnt be the case. Our defence was superb for most of the game, their tries coming from kicks rather than clean breaks.
You can tell the defensive system has changed, numerous times players steamed out of the line to shut them down while others covered over for them causing confusion in the opposition play. We must have charged 3 kicks down and I cant remember the end of a set where we didnt pressure the kicker which was great to watch how eager the players were.
I thought standouts were Taylor, Kaye, Ambler, Divorty, Manning and some notable mentions for Maneely who looked dangerous, moore and Calahane who both were a handful and Place who looks a bit of a class act, his short ball to Tyrer for his try was pure quality.
Not going to get too excited because KR had a lot of young players in but the signs are there and we probably beat a team that is better than most teams outside the top 4 in this league.

Great points Gregg particularly about the defence.
I was not privy to the conversation so perhaps Halifaxstephen might come on and expand, but, basically a couple of the KR board were very impressed with our defence and the organisation.
I thought Place's kicking was superb, that little grubber which we got on the end of.
I also thought Robbo was superb, a few selection headaches for Richard?
A good following from the Fax Faithfull
Mind you the man of the match surely was Halicat, how he refrained from eating that budgie who kept pulling his tail I'll never know.
Great enjoyment, how ANYBODY can't be excited beat me.
Ps Many thanks to Jason Netherton who came over onto the terrace to have his picture taken with grandson Halifaxwilliam and his friend Halifaxtom.

| Just seen your superstars returning from their luxurious warm weather training "regime" Charlie. Very handy that, seeing as we play in blistering summer temperatures back here I hear Barlow was rushed to intensive care after using all his factor 15 on day one as mayonnaise for the burgers. Daft lad.

Excellent summary of the game. Moore's offload out of the tackle (if he gets it right) will give us some second phase, Miles looked strong and I was delighted for Kaye who without being harsh would be most peoples pick to lose out at 9, a good example of rising to the challenge.
The defence was very good overall and I'm sure RM will be pleased with that aspect.
Early days but looking good as a unit taking that into consideration.

| Almost perfect performance for a friendly, had written Kaye off before season but he was great and nearly went 90m in first half break.I assume this was the HKR squad 14-30 with a smidging of first team if so i don't think there will be much DR this season
Welham is a good player and the fullback looked lively other than that enjoy Gateshead good crowd and as the home fans drifted away in their numbers with 10 mins to go they took the see you in the middle 8S taunts in good spirits

The one in first half from a 5 man tackle that went 4 yards forward into a HKR players arms. Can laugh about it now.

That's the one that prompted the comment, he'll no doubt blame the wind
He stays on his feet a lot in the tackle and it will be a potent weapon with a few games under the belt and they get the timing right, it's something we have missed for a long time other than from Sam B.

and hopefully Tangata too.

Being a Divorty as we found out yesterday he can kick as well.
I were surprised how easily we wont the tackles in attack and defence yesterday. We put in some bone crunching hits and a good example was in the second half when Bracek got smashed by 3 players, upended, and slammed on his back he was still able to play the ball quicker than the 3 defenders could get up giving us a good platform even though he lost the initial tackle.

As he's our fourth choice hooker you can have him on DR

Yes your right, never saw beyond the stiff arm.
Joking apart, there was a time when head high tackles were allowed as long as they weren't stiff armed.
Come on Colin, surely you remember some of those.
