Tough decision

Would throwing a decent wedge at the likes of Ridyard put us ahead of Toronto and Toulouse? The club is building stronger foundations with the reserves and academy, long term that is the way forward not throwing silly money at mercenaries. Unfortunately we simply cannot compete with the spending power of Toronto and throwing cash at a few players this season would be a total waste of funds.

I know it’s a defeatist attitude but I just can’t see Toronto messing up this next season. However with the signings they have made not sure how they are going to keep them all happy? Would Brierley be a potential target for us?

Something we don’t seem to do anymore is pick up players from RU, not talking top level but the lower leagues there is talent out there that could be a worth a shot in the reserves.

Indeed, there may be another Chester Butler or a Carl Gillespie playing in West Yorkshire. Who would you suggest do the scouting on a Saturday Leon.

Brierley would be quality for us but if Ridyard/Sammutt are out of our league i'd imagine it would be the same for Brierley. A signing like that could just transform our team and with supporters stumping up for what is likely to be our main signing I would imagine they could be persuaded to do the same for someone in that class.

Some interesting comments and views on the recruitment topic. The priority for me is to build on solid foundations and for the long term success of the club both on and off the field.
There is one key caveat for me though and that is not to forget we are in the entertainments industry.
There is so much competition out there now for our money and our business model, whilst showing due diligence on the financials etc, should also have some form of speculative budget to provide and attract the paying customer.
Singing Twist & Shout at the end of every game, whilst providing atmosphere, isn't as good as seeing a class player coming up with some magic that gets you on the edge of your seat every time he has the ball etc.
I have been fortunate enough to watch Fax for over 50 years and have seen some class players/entertainers don the Blue & White during that time. We are due another tranche/individual to kick on from the momemtum currently being built on matchdays and in the community etc.
As the emphasisis both from the RFL and the BOD is ROI then why not do the sums on this player recruitment initiative?

Part of the issue (Well most of the issue) is the coach DOES NOT want to bring players into the positions most fans have identified as "in need" of improving. RM simply does not think we need to improve those areas. We are/were looking at a young lad from Swinton at HB but hes a future prospect. I think we need to push on and sign more quality and agree with many on here but I think the main signing stumped up by LS28 will be it....

Nosey Parker says in League Weekly that Fax have signed QLT, Parker is wrong more often than right but he claims to have spoken to QLT's agent just yesterday.

If you take enough shots eventually you will score so he was due to get one right.

Having known Nosey since God was a boy i know from experience if you tell him a whisper he blows it up into a novel.

I've heard that we're trying to get Will Maher permanent from Cas or on loan if they won't release him. I'd like Shane Grady and another back rower to also sign up

Yes Will Maher and as mentioned before Baldwinson are possibles, RM rates them and they both liked their respective time at Fax.
Will put in some big games for us and Baldy looked the part in the few games he played and would get better as he got the plays nailed down.
Both were tied to there clubs and had interest from others so we will have to see.

So recruitment has gone as most people would have liked, maybe R M has got it right this time, as long as he plays people in their correct positions.
Everyone would like to see Fax hit the ground at maximum impact and start piling the wins up from the off, however we all know that you can learn the plays, but executing them takes more time, be a little patient, don t get on players backs if errors or mistakes happen.
The Championship is going to be really tough this year and some cracking games to be had, Sky could do worse than looking at some of the top games as they will give S/L a run for their money.
Congratulations to all at HRLFC for what they have done so far this off season, long may it continue with the new BoD, and thank you to all who sailed the ship beforehand to put Fax in this position. Yes well said and in line with part of it.

Just before last season got underway RM himself recognised Fax had been a bit slow out of the blocks.

A significant part of this was down to the number of players who were still recovering from being busted in the 8’s.

Not sure on the injury hang over this time round but hopefully it isn’t as bad.
Anyone know the injury situation?
