| Huddersfield have signed Tom Holmes for 2019. I wonder if any half backs might be available from the Giants?

Holmes did his ACL at the Bash so is unlikely to actually be playing for a while.

Yes, we know. That's why the thread title refers to the year 2019. He couldn't play for Shudderfield this season anyway even if he wasn't injured.

I was thinking long term rather than for a few matches this year. Especially since no further signings allowed for 2018.
A good keen young lad of almost SL standard to learn alongside Muzza and interchange with him when appropriate would be my ideal.

| Really need 2 half backs for me. Great as Muzza is, he is no spring chicken now and need to find someone to replace him gradually. The absolute must is a scrum half that can pass a ball, and can take us around the park with a long kicking game.

| If I remember rightly, one of Muzza's best games for Fax was when he played hooker - I think it was against Fev in the 2016 Summer Bash when we beat them 37-0. After all, he did play in the forwards at Hull KR did he not? Love Muzza, he's a great character, a great captain and still has some craft. A 3rd hooker for me. With Kaye at loose but alternating hooker with Muz and Moore off bench - a 3 pronged hooker attack like the old Penky/Gleeson/Beswick (who started loose) days. Sweet!

I doubt he'll be playing much for Huddersfield until well into the 2019 season.

Muzza is not even the same league as Penky/Gleeson/Beswick .

As a player you're right, but as a leader on and off the field you'll find him hard to beat. What we need is a playmaker to take his place on the field, but make sure that he has a position in the coaching staff going forward as he's (imo) unrivalled in his ability to gel a team. We keep on hearing about the fantastic team spirit that Fax have, and where do you think that comes from?
From a recruitment perspective, we miss someone like Martin Hall. He's an unsung hero from the time that we had Penky, Gleeson, Beswick and others on board. Without him, we'd never have managed to get players of their calibre on board.

It might be worth mentioning that Martin Hall had a 600k budget to play with also. So maybe not so difficult with that much money. No doubt he could spot a player being a superb ex-pro player. For me Muzza has been well worth his money and you are right that we need to find a similar type of player.

| murell will be at 6 until he retires/moves to assistant. its pointless even raising the idea of bringing a new 6 in UNLESS its a younger lad that will be placed under his wing.
7 is a different story, that could be a position that changes but honestly, i just cant see it happening. its been a case of 'bring in a new half back' for what, 3 yrs?
but if it did, could we bring someone in of that high a quality that they are straight in to the team and if so, who? i'd love a Gaskell! We'll see what comes in the off season i suppose!

| Penny , gleeson and bedswick no wonder we could score try's then. Yes Muzza is a good bloke who has been well worth the money but Father Time waits for no man and it's time for an on field replacement . I worry about him for Sunday .... But then he will probably pop up and prove us all wrong !

What the drighlington dynamo lacks in skill and speed,he is a legend at hkr as well,110% every game and worth his weight as a leader and inspiration and a top bloke as well.

| Sorry but it's a Rooney-esque scenario for me with Muzza. At what point do you say ok time to move on, on the pitch at least.

| Nah, there's another year left in Murrell. Problem is everything good has to go through him, and that says more about those around him than Murrell himself. He could move to a more of a Grix-type role if someone else could take the strain at half-back.
Be interesting to see how Connor Robinson gets on against us next year.

It will, but we wanted to keep Connor as i understand it.
It was Connor who wanted away due to time away from his new job travelling to training in Halifax.

Salford are a great example of how taking the strain off a player can improve him. Look at how much Lui has improved since they brought Hastings in. I am probably in the Murrell's had his day camp, but if we are sticking with him at least get him some help.

| Being the first to pat players on the back after a mistake or doing something good does not warrant a place alone. Yes he has his moments and you can't knock his brain but essentially in defence you are a man down and also in attack as he is not quick enough to follow play. It's almost like the clubs scared to try something new. When we played Toronto the only difference were both halfbacks got on the end of breaks and things. Creating a 2nd phase attack. Murrell once he's passed a ball is simply too slow and not fit enough to do this, which essentially is what a half back should do. A few 40/20's here and there and sublime passes does not make up for this.
If only scoring 2 tries in 3 games (2 of those games against same division teams) does not tell you its time for a change at halfback then nothing will.

| I cant understand why Fax can t attract players, the best part time team in the Championship, great team spirit and work ethic, a loyal if diminutive base of supporters.
A forward looking BoD and a young coach who is proving his worth.
Are Halifax such Pariahs, did the fat controller put a hex on us?

Money talks and Fax haven`t as much as some others have had. It`s a job and like most employees they tend to follow the money.
If a part time player in the championship stands out then SL clubs come sniffing a la Hankinson from Swinton who i thought would improve us.
