Other half brought one back from a food/ecology show at the weekend, I'm cynical (at best), be interested to know if anyone has tried them, and what your experiences have been?

| I've used the drier balls but they were from JML. Didn't notice anything different to my clothes other than they made a bloomin' racket in the tumble drier

| This sort of stuff is 99% bunkum and crap. So imagine my surprise when after 5 mins of googling, I can't really find anyone with a bad word to say about it? Good reviews all over the place. Weird. Looks like you can get 720-washes worth on Amazon for £19.99 including a claimed 30 day money back guarantee. Hmm.
I am sufficiently convinced that I think Mintball should get one and do some tests, for the good of the forum. Would do it myself but obviously, washing, and I'm male, so I can't work the chine.

Just make sure you get at least 719 washes out of it before the 30 days are up though!

| 6 more washes to go before we start using the egg (as in 6 of the normal washing tab things under the sink), will keep people posted as to how good the "egg" thing is.

Did you buy the tumble drier ones too? I'd be interested to hear the results of those.

It's one of those little ironies of life that, in the days when I wanted a microwave, I couldn't afford one – and now, I wouldn't have one near the place.
To be honest, I don't know what on earth I'd use it for.
On the power thing, I was astonished to discover, recently, that old analogue TVs eat far more power than new flat screen jobbies. It had not occurred to me that there'd be any difference.

There's a huge difference, isn't there?
I recently went around the house checking everything that was on "standby", two TV's, CD player, Hi Fi, Oven (no clock, so why?) two radios, Sky box, Wifi Router, two iphone chargers, two normal mobile chargers, portable vacum thingy, we waste so much energy it's untrue, all of the multi socket sets have gone, have one of those multi plug sockets and either the TV/DVD or the Hi Fi are on, nothing else.!
And the only thing I'd use a microwave for would be popcorn, and it's more fun doing that in a pan without the lid on, minutes of fun (and a good hour fo cleaning up and calming my other halfback down, as was witnessed last night after we'd been sat in the sunshine drinking most of the day!)

So I gather from [iWhich?[/i, yes.
Ours was getting flaky – it was one of (presumably) the last generation of those vast old things (took up a quarter of the room). We'd had it for around seven and a half years and were, in typical fashion, preparing to let it rumble on until complete collapse, until I read the [iWhich?[/i piece.
God, HD is such a pleasure to watch, as well as being better environmentally.

| Since Emma's had her stoma, I've insisted she use caustic soda on a boil wash. A bloody eco-egg would do nothing around here

second week of using "the egg" and I have to say it's very impressive, can't tell any difference in the cleanliness/freshness of the washing and, if anything, it appears to dry on the airer a bit quicker, how you getting along with yours?

Works great - as you say, no discernible difference from using 'conventional' washing agents.
We're still using standard tablets for the whites ATM as the instructions on the Egg warned that they would become less white over time and need regular treatment with a bleaching agent, but everything else is washing perfectly.

We're doing the same as regards whites (well, the whites that need to be "bright white"icon_wink.gif white sheets etc. w figured it doesn't really matter if they go a little "grey"
