Depends how far south west you go. Cornwall don't count, that's an entirely other place. We're pretty friendly down here in Winky but most of us are "blow-ins". In the pub one night, out of around 30 regulars in there, only two were born in Somerset, and none at all in Wincanton

Easy tiger, as a born & bred Londoner living in Cornwall I feel rather alone on this thread now while it may be true that Cornwall has more than it's fair share of goat bothering eyebrow knitting moon faced inhabitants, we lead the way in yiffing down these here parts....................and you bothersome northerners will still come trawing down in your 1000's on your Sun holidays so that you can look at a different set of rugged rocks from those you have at home.

| 1. Kick out all the Northern monkeys from London and the South.
2. Move Hadrian's wall a lot further south.
3. Make new Hadrian's wall higher.
4. Londoners won't have to hear how good it is up north again from people no longer living there.
5. Londoners won't have to hear "ye got anee change please meet (or however they talk)"

| I'm not surprised the southerners don't want northerners given their bigoted views towards their fellow countrymen here.
What is society like in the north, I presume there is low crime, low unemployment, people respect their elders, anti social behaviour got eliminated by the last northern Prime Minister Tony Blair?

Thats pretty much it, we also doff our caps to the local policemen who patrol the streets with hands clasped behind their backs cuffing any urchin who looks at them a bit funny, coalmen whistle jaunty tunes and we get our bread delivered by a boy on a bike who calls us "Sir" or "Madam", sometimes randomly but we are teaching him to tell the difference by means of a kick up the jacksie when he gets it wrong.
And the Corona pop man still calls.

This sounds great, I understand you are a Leeds man? As a posh southerner I would like to move up to the north and sample this superior lifestyle, but I have some concerns of how I would be accepted. However like every southerner I support Man United so perhaps if I were to move up to Leeds if I wore my Man United top and walked into a local pub shouting "tally ho fellas, go the Red Devils! Champions and what not!" then will the locals greet me with open arms, and say "eyy oop, here's a fine young lad wantin' move t'north an find some mates, ere lad come t'bar, ave a pint on me and come sit wi'us"

Oh absolutely, you will be welcomed like a long lost brother, there is nothing quite like northern hospitality and there is nothing quite like football sectarianism and northern hospitality, they go hand in glove.
In fact in Leeds you'll find many pubs flying the flag of Manchester United which will be absolutely full of the types of people that you wish to adopt as friends for its a little known fact that Manchester United is actually the closest located football team to our city.

Don't think so but crackers as Leeds Utd fans are, they would after greeting you probably phone for an ambulance.

| Hold up a sec - enough of the south west bashing! My grandparents used to live in a village between Cheltenham and Gloucester, and 'twas a lovely place (not their council house, but the village).
I also have happy memories of Gloucester itself. It's not a dump at all compared with most northern cities I've been to.....

I have happy memories of skylarking among the bombed buildings in Hull but I doubt I'd find anything remotely fascinating about Lister Street or St James Square these days.
You've obviously not been back to Gloucester for some time. | Quote ="Chris28"I moved to London in 1991 and lived there until 2000 .
I think I knew, through work and friends of friends etc, about 4 genuine Londoners. I knew a lot of Scots, a few Scousers, 1 guy from Devon and quite a few people from Yorkshire, plus a couple of Midlanders. Mrs28 is from Hull and I met her as she was also working there (sharing a house with a friend also from Hull).
I wondered then, and still do, if everyone not from London "went home" whether London's economy would suffer. I suspect it would.'"
A very similar situation to me. I lived in London from 1981 to 1992 and a big majority of my colleagues in the software companies I worked for were not from London.
Mrs DaveO was met when working for one company and she is from Barnsley. We still have a great group of friends from that time who we go away with every new year and next year it will be 20 years of doing so. All met when working down there and they include two Scots, one Welsh with only one from London and another "southerner" from Leicester. The rest were all from north of Watford Gap.
Before buying my own place I shared flats/houses with a total of 9 other people only one of whom came from London.
Londoners were a rare species!
A great place to live for a while particularly when you are young and do not have kids. I get very nostalgic for those days whenever I visit but forget all the times I spent stuck on tube trains commuting or cursing the fact someone had inconveniently thrown themselves under a train etc.

| The reason you don't meet many Londoners is because it's full of you northern leeches. SImple really.
Coming down telling us they're from God's country which is ironic as so many of the feckers choose to live in London.

I only got 2 chomps? Nice to see people from opposing political sides actually getting together. I like that. The world needs more of it.
