So at the second attempt it looks like we will finally make our return to Owlerton.

Thought we did quite well last week considering the lack of rugby we've had, hopefully more steady improvements on Sunday and another three points.

I could not go today I followed the match through twitter It sounded like we did not play very well although the weather conditions were poor and with 5 teams going down this season they could be quite a few shock results in this division.

Any Match Reports and what is Owlerton like ? is there enough cover when its raining ?

Poor performance and an error strewn game. The view combined with the poor nature of the match meant it wasn't the great spectacle. Plenty of cover, could have easily fit 500 more under cover considering there was 897 there. Very quick service for refreshments though.

This was a Barrow side thrashed at home by Leigh, and had 34 put past them past North Wales who've today conceded 36 to Featherstone. Play like that every week and the only place is down. Let's hope its a one off because a lot of people I spoke to after were quite shocked. I didn't quite know what to make of it, I can't have been the only one expecting a 30+ point win.

Many chose to watch the game behind glass, possibly due to the weather, which meant the game lacked atmosphere. The ground coped with the amount of support there today but I would be slightly concerned at a larger crowd like Featherstone as there were no crash barriers which could lead to problems. I remember the first time we were at Owlerton that temporary seating was in place. As we are likely to be there at least two years has consideration been given to this. I am sure it has. We are just going to have to put up with what we have.

Worst I have seen the Eagles play for sometime. Just hope it was a one-off.

Barrow simply looked after the ball better than we did, to many silly offloads and quick expansive passing in awful conditions our set completion must have been very low.
But credit to Barrow for getting the win well deserved.

Really enjoyed Owlerton it's alot better than DVS with a bar every way you turn

I agree with Duckzilla - much better experience, at least we're closer to the pitch.

I watched the 1st half from inside the downstairs bar - the 10 second delay on the TVs meant you got excellent instant replays!

Congrats to Barrow - well deserved win.

My concern for Eagles is not having enough beef upfront - losing Higgins & Szostak, plus Hirst out long term.
Similarly, in Super League - I don't think Wigan & Warry will do as well, as they've offloaded too much experience & grunt up front - you can't win anything with kids!

However, it's still early days.

Let's not overlook it was four tries apiece. A bit disappointing but it'll be reyt.

There was talk about putting temporary seating on the terracing on the back straight but this never materialized. I thought this was condemned where people allowed to stand there yesterday ?

So have I got this right, you watch the game inside behind glass with a crumbling terrace a dog track and a speedway track in front of you?
Then the pitch is about 85 m with tiny in goals and looks like a pub pitch in quality?

Certainly do Nostradamus, but unfortunately the Council don't wish to build a shiny new stadium for the local community, hopefully something will come from the plan to rebuild on the Din Valley site but until then we cant be picky!

The last time that we were at Owlerton, there was seating on the stand adjacent to where the players come out on to the pitch. I am not talking about a large stand but some seating for people like myself, who have difficulty standing for a whole match. Not a great problem at away grounds as there are crash barriers to lean on and steps to sit on at half time and before the start of the game.I appreciate that there are seats in the bars but apart from it being warm inside, who wants to watch a game behind glass?

Was it not worth exploring Rotherham or Barnsley or Chesterfield or alfreton etc

Did you look at Sheffield fc at Dronfield 2100 capacity?

Yes it was looked at at Dronfield the pitch was not big enough for Rugby League

As said on another thread I really enjoyed it at Owlerton much better than DVS just a shame there isn't outdoor seats for people that need/want them. If I had it my way I'd put a stand in on the far side and stay there permanently
