Did anybody go down to Owlerton Tonight ? if so any new info regarding the facilities and playing at Owlerton.

Look North had a good piece on us tonight an interview with tubbs on the pitch which was looking a bit dodgy !! and an old clip at Owlerton in the 1980's

OWLERTON ,Charlie watched some good games at Owlerton last time you were there , can you still watch the game from behind the glass ?

I went, was a good turnout, around 200 fans turned up and everyone was really positive, from both the club and from the venue.

Main things to come out of the evening, we have a 400-seater stand which we will hopefully be able to put up on the 'back straight' side of the ground, all games will be on a Sunday afternoon with a probable 2pm kick off (unless we're on premier).

In answer to your question Charlie, yes you can.

Great Video and the Eagles future in Sheffield is now secured even if the proposed new stadium does not materialize as the Owlerton MD wanted us to sign a 5 year contract !! hopefully the 400 seater stand can be built on the back straight as that would be the best place to view rugby league. In reply to Charlies question whether you can view the match behind glass, The Panorama suite (Upstairs) is open only to 1984 Eagles Season Ticket Holders which are £50 a year more expensive that normal season tickets I think you can buy a match day ticket on the day to access this facility but this will cost £26 !!! however I would expect you can view behind glass at the Paddock Bar (Below the Panorama) and the Napoleon Bar (almost behind the goal)

Or you can just bring your own pane with you. Personally, I see everything from behind glass.

I must admit I always enjoyed games at Owlerton , but it always seemed cold weather , that is why I like watching from behind the Glass , I remember Sheffield beating us in the CC at Owlerton in the Billy Benyon days ,and Billy facing the Fans to apologise .

If it's the same cc game i'm thinking of the Leigh fans didn't take it to well

in other words there wasn't many pane's of glass to look through afterwards

Ducky it probably was the same game around the late 80s , Billy Benyon was our Coach ,a couple of Lads I wnet to this game with had a few choice words for Billy B , buts life , I only hope the food is better at Owlerton these days .

23-17 - we scored in the last minute from the kick-off after we'd dropped (or is it fielded these days?

) a goal to level the scores.

Sheffield Eagles know that size matters and it will be a tight fit when they kick-off at Owlerton Stadium next season.

Club officials have measured the pitch area in the centre of the greyhound track and it meets the standards needed for a professional team. Coach Mark Aston is confident that all will be ready for their return to the stadium where the club began in 1984.

“Getting everything ready at Owlerton is going well and we’ve checked the pitch and it fits. That’s the most important thing,” said Aston. “We are investing money in the pitch to make it a surface we can play attacking rugby on. We’ll adapt what we do and use the pitch to our advantage.”

The playing area will be narrower than the Eagles would like but they may not need to cover part of the track in goal areas behind the try line. A decision is also still to be made on adding covered outside seating in a stand on a part of the terracing currently not used.

“When I played there years ago there was matting in the corners but this time we may just squeeze everything in,” added Aston. “There are a few challenges, the stand with outside seating and the changing rooms but I’m confident by the end of January we will be ready to play.”

Judging by the staircarpet sized ingoals at Old Trafford last Saturday, minimum dimensions can be more than the reality.

Won't suit our game to play on a small pitch though.

Truly shocking place for RL, did you try Rotherham or Barnsley ?

Neither of them is in Sheffield.

It is not ideal but it was the only place in Sheffield that will have us hopefully the New Stadium in Don Valley will go ahead and we can move in there in 2016

Rotherham is very close though, hope that stadium comes off for you, I will give our fixture a miss until you move

Rotherham don't want us. Too much trouble for them. The rent we'd pay is peanuts to them.

They wouldn't even let Rotherham Titans RU play there, they wouldn't want there "community" stadium's pitch being roughed up. It was a non starter for us and gladly so

I'm glad you've given us all time to come to terms with your decision.

Perhaps there have been changes in the last 20 years.
