Should we look to take it over?

They've been threatening this for a while, it's just made the news today.

If we could stump up the cash to buy it and make it more amicable to watch rugby league (rip up the running track for a start) then that would obviously be ideal.

I'd expect some negotiations in the not too distant future if they've not already begun. (And no, I'm not 'in the know'!)

Surely it would cost crazy money to buy the site, and even more so to develop it in to anything resembling a decent RL ground?

In usual circumstances you'd expect so but if it's going to be demolished anyway?

Like I say I don't know I'm just branding about possibilities, just spoke to someone at the club and apparently we're releasing a statement in due course so watch this space I guess.

Even with the economic climate, I'm sure the council would be able to command a few million quid for such a huge site, be it for commercial or housing development.

“With today’s news about Don Valley Stadium we can confirm that our 2013 fixtures at Don Valley will not be affected by any proposals.”

“We hope to see a great crowd down at Don Valley on Friday 8th February for our first home game of 2013 as Championship Champions as we take on Batley Bulldogs, kick off 7.30pm.”

Not much of a statement to be honest but at least it reassures people that we won't be affected in the short term.

Perfectly adequate statement for the moment, until the Council make a decision, there is not a lot the club can do.

I saw this on the news this morning. For watching Rugby League, its not the best. However, as an athletics venue, its probably one of the best in the country.

If it was demolished, I think it would be a waste of good facility.

Any athletics stadium is a waste of money. They just never get used - as spectator facilities, as opposed to participation.

I used to work at Don Valley when I was at university in Sheffield, it's an unusual stadium that is quite badly designed yet has a certain charm to it, I hope it stays.

Sorry to see on the news Don Valley will close. But gald to see it will remain open for the rest of the season.

Hope finding a new ground isn't too hard.

There's a petition up and running to try and save it. Get it signed and spread the word!

People have been moaning for years that they don't like the stadium and then as soon as the Council want to knock it down, random folk come on here and ask us to sign petitions to save it.
