| London Skolars win Haringey Club of the Year
25th November 2011
The Haringey Celebrating Sport Awards 2011, at Tottenham Hotspur’s White Hart Lane, saw the London Skolars pick up their second ‘Club of the Year’ award following on from the success at September’s London Junior League Club of the Year triumph.
The 5th annual event brought together partner organisations within the borough to recognise and reward local people for their achievement and commitment to sport and physical activity. The event was compered by the Chair of the London 2012 Forum, Richard Sumray and attended by the Worshipful Mayor of Haringey, Cllr Gina Adamou with Tottenham Hotspur star Younes Kaboul presenting the awards. A broad spectrum of sports were represented at the evening but it was the borough’s Rugby League outfit that came out with the top prize.
It is the icing on the cake of a hugely successful season for the club, which has seen a record numbers in club membership, representative players and volunteers, as well as a strong second half of the season for the first team in Co-operative Championship 1. The Skolars were out in force to accept the award with backroom staff and directors as well as coaches on hand to celebrate the club’s latest success.
Community Manager and Club Welfare Officer Paul Thorman was overjoyed at the accolade saying, “We operate in a borough with such a rich sporting heritage even getting shortlisted for the award is huge recognition for the club. There were some outstanding award winners on the evening and being put into the same category as some of the individuals, teams and clubs is a humbling experience. To have actually received the award is a monumental accolade for all involved at London Skolars. It is acknowledgement for everyone at the club, no matter how big or small anybody’s role has been this year, it wouldn’t have been possible without them.”
