Let me play devils advocate on this one.

Why when we are far from certain to be in the Super League would we be that confident of landing a marquee signing?

Does Bernard have an assurance about a new structure for the competition that he isn't at liberty to share?

Or does he have more faith in McNamara than the rest of the world put together?

I would say an assurance that Super League structure is not gong to be the same next year

I know we have kind of covered this question in the McNamara thread but the only reason I can think of that he hasn't already long since been sacked is that the club and Bernard in particular know something about the structure of the 2019 Super league that isn't apparent to the rest of us.

If he knew the club were not at risk of relegation then he might be keeping the coach to try and give him another winter to sort the mess out, and make sure Tomkins joins.

Conspiracy abounds...

One thing is for sure, I want us to be staying up on our own merits as opposed to benefiting from some change in the competition rules.

Jimmy, I reckon something is afoot, am a broncos fan, with a keen interest in Catalans. At broncos there is little news on contracts for next year. One of the thoughts is our current backer may be waiting for future structure decision before committing his wallet for further funding.
With the way dragons are playing and with Mac bananas track record their must be some reason why Bernard is being as patient as he is with him.

Confirmation that STomkins is leaving Wigan at the end of the season. I don't think anyone is expecting anything other than him coming to Perpi. I still see it as one of Bernard's vanity signings, but hey-ho

At the game on Friday, the talk in the press room was that there'll not be the eights next season, but exactly how it'll be managed nobody was sure.

If there is, he must have a clause inserted in his contract that nulls it?

But imagine it got nulled, where would he go? No one would have the cap space to afford him. No way Tomkins signs for us unless he is certain we are in super league next year imo

I watched Tomkins yesterday-with the eagle eye I used to reserve for Monsieur Duport-and can report that though he somehow was awarded man of the match he has become a good-but no more than that- player ,who has lost a lot of his pace.

the word around Wigan a few weeks ago was that Sam Tomkins was joining the Dragons with Shaun Wane following to take over as coach for 2019. Lo and behold Tomkins has signed and Wane has announced his departure this morning. Must admit I was doubtful when I first heard it, but I strongly suspect this rumour is true and it is being propagated by RL journos on Twitter now too.
