| Chorley 26 - 14 Crosfields.
Good finish to the seasons end.Crosfields came to out bully a young Panthers side but we were having none of it (neither was the ref). Never heard a side or sideline moan and whinge as much in 20 odd years of playing, it was laughable.
This season as been a big step forward for a lot of our younger players and with even more 18s coming through its looking very good for the future.
Well done everyone on whats been a cracking season.
On a final note , today was my last game. Twenty odd years of open age, its time for a rest.

| Bury 16ish - Eccleston considerably more, about 42
Well, we saved our worst performance of the year for the last game...never got going, slow in defence and awful in attack. We had no half-backs today and it showed, no direction from the ptb and unforced errors, stupid handling, knock-ons...complete rubbish. Game plan?? What game plan. As for defence...don't get me going...didn't move in and marker/ABC defence was shocking. Worst performance by a mile!
On top of that, Eccleston played very well, ran hard and hit their lines very well, didn't leave many gaps and played a simple but effective game. Though to be fair, we made it very easy for them!! A good fair game, tough but in good spirit as they always are against Eccleston...on a positive note we destroyed them in the boat race afterwards!
So that's it for the season then - our best season to date believe it or not! Having formed in 2008 we won only 2 games in 2008/9 and 2009/10, and we've won 7 this year, some by good margins, and several we could have won with a little more composure. The ongoing frustration for us (and our opponents) has been lack of squad numbers meaning we've fielded weak sides or simply not had enough and had to concede. Hopefully a move to summer will see numbers increase (we've picked up half a dozen lads already) and we can do ourselves justice more often.
Thanks to everyone in Div 5, been a good season and enjoyed every minute. All the best for the future!! Now for some food, get changed & out on the beers with the lads...that's what it's all about!!

| Just in Bury 12 Eccleston lions 46
A solid performance by the Lions. That saw us turn up missing 3 front rowers from the week before. We played today with a smile on our faces. On another day it could of been 60 or more but for some good bury cover defence. Dont feel so disheartened cronus, You have some good lads there.
Well done to all the lads that have played for us this season, its not been easy playing all season with NO half backs. So many injurys it untrue. Well done to all the other 1 team clubs, not easy down here in Div 5. See you all next season.

| Newton Storm 28 - 6 Wigan St Cuthberts.
played well today but could of scored so many more if we hadnt of tried to score from every play forcing errors. Chorley keep going on about how young their side is which is rubbish, we have a far younger squad but Cuthies today had the youngest side ive seen all year. got abit tasty at the end when a scrap broke out but overall a good game. think the game was a record for the amont of scrums we had, lots of errors. were happy to take the 2pts though

| to be fair the chorley team who come down to our place were younger than the side we played at there place at the start of the season and i would say they was a younger side than newton. There are quite a few young sides in the league this year though for example down the Boars we have 3 players over 25 and 1 of them has only played a few this season down to work commitments.
As for the season as a hole its been a very good one for us this is our 3rd season in the NWC and we have always been there abouts in the league but this season we really pushed on and done really well only losing one game in the league which wasnt half tough. Everytime a team gets promoted from our league the seem to do well the following year so lets hope we can continue this.

| I think the age thing can work any which way depending on the team. Chorley's 'young' side beat us at our place in January and was better than the 'older' side we beat in October because they are young lads who've grown up playing together. Yet we played Crossfields twice just 3 weeks apart and the side that came to ours halved in age and we put 50 past them after losing those three weeks before. It all depends on the club. Our side can be very old - we have a 48yr old and 3 others over 40, but also 30 somethings who have just taken the game up (mates of mates) so they do not make us anymore experienced - quite the opposite!

| NWC Div 5
Westhoughton Lions v Widnes Tigers - Cant see why Westhoughton wouldnt play but if they do turn up Widnes to have well enough to win.
Crosfields v Newton Storm - Probaly be a scrappy game as everygame is when you go to Crosfields but Newton to sneak a win.
NWC Bowl
Hindley v Wigan Bulldogs - Even though Bulldogs have had a good season i just cant see them beating Hindley.
Rylands Sharks A v St Helens Wild Boar - Looking forward to the game was a good tough close game last time we went to Rylands, but obviosuly going to go for my own team to win.

| I believe the West Haughton V Tigers game has now been switched to Widnes for one reason or another.
Last game of the year at home. Let all get in the pub after.

I believe you men have West Bank in the Widnes Cup? Tough draw there mate!
NWC Div 5
- Westhoughton Lions v Widnes Tigers: apparently now at Widnes?? Reckon Widnes should have enough to take this, especially at home.
- Crosfields v Newton Storm: looks like Crosfields 1sts are also at home, but the 'A' team will probably get some 'help' in like they did when we played them there. Union lads who play 'now & then' apparently. Agree with Dime Bar, a messy game, but if a side stays disciplined and well drilled they'll beat Crosfields, who rely on dirty play and randomly offloading & flinging it about. Oh yeah - if there's a massive tattooed skinhead 'roidhead prop playing, built like a brick house, he's banned - got 7 games against us for abusing the ref a few weeks back, was their danger player by a mile.
NWC Bowl
- Hindley v Wigan Bulldogs: Got to go with Hindley, even though Bulldogs have improved Hindley are a different class.
- Rylands Sharks A v St Helens Wild Boars: tough team Rylands, but reckon Wild Boars will be looking to finish their excellent season on a high.

| Rylands vs Boars
Rylands commitee rung boars a few hours ago to say their first team are struggling were supposed to be playing ashton bears and are giving that game and are likely to field a few players in the semi final saturday, fuel for the fire for us boars lads who think we will still do them anyway but i cant understand why they rung and just didnt throw some of them in like crossfields and that do. Seems a bit strange to me anyway fingers crossed the other 16 lads man up and we do em

I agree it does sound strange because they rang us (Ashton) at 6pm to say they had a 1st team squad and are travelling to us for the NWC Prem game on Saturday. They gave a game last week up at Walney Central but if they are struggling for numbers then I'd suspect the semi-final would be the game that gets played.

| I was told that if the first team game is called off then the second team fixture can't go ahead, so wild boars would get a 18-0. If they were to play the first team game then the game could obviously go ahead

| yeah westbank thats pretty much the rules my friend from thatto heath told me that nwc states if they have more than 1 team and are struggling that the first team game takes priority,
me personally id rather just play any 17 lads who want a game win lose or draw the harder the better really i would rather play than see 18-0's flung about so i hope the game is on

| Sounds like they like the idea of a piece of silverware. I'm fairly sure they can only play a maximum of 4 first-teamers in the 'A' team so I don't see why they should feel it necessary to warn you unless they're looking to select more than 4.
How can any club try and conceded the first team fixture and play the 'A' team game? Fingers crossed they'll field teams for both fixtures. Apart from anything they'll probably have a lot of p*ssed off 2nd teamers who've made it this far.
Anyway, good luck Wild Boars!

| From what I hear there has been some form of fallout and the teams aren't as close as they were at the beginning of the season. With the 1st team already relegated it might make sense from their POV but league rules is the rules.
I thought pot hunting went out with the ark in NWC but as long as the players have played less than 6 1st team games they can play who evers signed on I suppose, thats why cubs have two sides so that they can support each other. Maybe not in this case though!

2 each, they were playing good until they realised the game was beyond them then they wanted to scrap instead. both our sin bins were retaliation to cheap shot punches being thrown.
we didnt defend to our best today but our attack was superb.
the pitch was like concrete, injured after their winger ankle tapped me when through on there line.
summer rugby will not be for Dipper!!

| Rylands Sharks A 22 - 42 Crosfields - big win at a normally very strong Rylands - though neither 1st team had a game, wonder what the line-ups were like!?
Westhoughton Lions 12 - 34 Newton Storm - good win away from home.
Just Wigan Bulldogs vs Newton left I think!
