Kris welham has signed for salford red devils,on a 2year deal.Shame really,would have been more than happy to see him back with us.

Why has he learnt to tackle in the last 2 years

I think his best rugby was before his injury. We need to look forward not backwards.

Still, hope he has a great season unless we meet him in the middle eights. Then he can have a stinker.

Very good try scoring record but we have seen for seasons past that he is one of the biggest liabilities in Rugby League with his defensive game. Can imagine a lot of teams video preparation would be to target him.

Let's be honest with ourselves, Welham would walk into our team. He was quality for the majority of time that he was at Rovers and loved playing for the club. Both he and the club needed their heads smashing together for not coming to an agreement before he left.
It's done now though and everybody has moved on.

Yes he was quality for the majority of the time but not in the latter stages and that was the important time when negotiating a new contract. He probably would not have been a first choice centre last year and would have been relying on injuries for a game. That was probably reflected in the offer we made him that he felt unable to accept. I'm not sure he would walk into our team now either unless his defence has improved dramatically.

Welham left 'cos he wanted more money. Then we signed Thornley for a ridiculous amount. Work that one out.

He looked quality outside Ben Galea. Otherwise less so imho.

Welham was just about the worst defender I have ever seen to play in the top flight. Ironically, folk who slagged Dixon and Eden also bang the Welham drum, #homegrownblinkers

Good attacking centre, cackamallabab defender. Nobody jumped the line more than our Krissy. Spectacular when he made the tackle and cut down the play or pulled off the occasional interception, but I lost count of the number of walk in tries we conceded as a result if his ill-disciplined, headless chicken approach.

Kallum Watkins repeatedly made a complete monkey of him at the Wembley CC final in 2015. Reckon he'll struggle at Salford, but wish him well.

Allegedly he was one of the highest paid squad members last season. Equal to many aussies. Even on an increase, Welham would have been on a lot less. Welham scored more and their defence was comparable.

Welham was really bad at jumping out of the line, the rest of his game was average to good with the occasional bit of attacking excellence. Came from the same skill set as Craig Hall.

So you don't know anything about the ridiculous payment then.

It stands to reason that an external new signing would demand a high wage when moving to a new employer and several teams were after him. There is no doubt in my mind that Welham woukd have been cheaper to retain as a home grown employee. Its the same in all businesses (except in the public sector). In the end Thornley offered no more than Welham.

But then again, hindsight is a wonderful thing. Oh well.

Thornley was a far better centre than Welham

Thought his defense was shoddy at times but to me unlike Welham, Thornley would do better in a better side.

So a ridiculous figure is now a high wage.

Reports elsewhere claimed he was on the top end of the wage bill. I have no internal insight whatsoever into the inner working at the club. I am a mere supporter, just like you, and have been for 30+ years.

However it stands to reason we paid a large salary for an ex-wigan centre who was reported to be hunted by several SL clubs at the time than is likely Welham was demanding, yet was actually no better that Welham.

As I said, hindsight is a wonderful thing. At the time it probably looked like a good deal but didn't turn out that way.

The only point I was trying to make was that you used the word ridiculous without saying what you deemed to be a rediculous amount or any evidence of what the salary actually was.

You appeared to be making a dig about our club without any evidence to support your assertions. Your subsequent posts seem to confirm this.

Anyway, welham was OK and loved to intercept the ball. The fact that his success rate at doing so was low and left gaping holes in the line was his undoing. I guess this hasn't changed whilst at Bradford. Thornley wasn't the player we expected him to be (based on what I saw of him on the pitch).

Minns isn't perfect, but better than both of them. Wether that continues this season, we can only hope.

Thornley looked disinterested at best! Kris was a great servant , thornley doesn't deserve to be in the same post as Kris really, but neither will be missed in my opinion.
