| Duo depart ahead of 2016 season
Hull Kingston Rovers have confirmed that young players Aaron Ollett and Macauley Hallett will leave the club to continue their careers elsewhere in 2016.
Ollett has signed a one-year contract with Keighley Cougars in the Kingstone Press League 1 for next season, whilst Hallett is also eyeing a move to the lower leagues and is expected to confirm where his future lies in the coming weeks.
Back rower Ollett has made 26 appearances and scored one try for the club, whilst centre or winger Hallett leaves having scored three tries in two first team appearances.
Head coach Chris Chester said: “On behalf of everybody at Hull Kingston Rovers, I’d like to wish Aaron and Macca all the best for the future.
“I’m sure they will both benefit from a new challenge next season and this is a good opportunity to test themselves at a good level on a regular basis.”

| Our youth development is shocking, Ollett looked a prospect, just who have we got coming through?
Somebody remind me who we've successfully brought through from scratch, into an established first team player in the last three years?
That is where we have to be strong, that is where our future lies, even if, as a smaller, less financially powerful club, we have to sell some along the way.

| Hallett would appear to be a bit of a nobhead so I have little sympathy for him. However, Ollett looked every inch a SL player who just needed a run of games. I think the decision to release him is a total damnation of our attempts at player production. Other than Salter & Green, who have we managed to bring through recently? I predict he will make it back to SL in the next 2-3 seasons.

| The last one one that we brought through that was any good is Scott Taylor, and we all know what happened there.
Thank heavens for merging our academies as ours has been Shoite for years.
Ollett, I thought had a chance of making it. I'm sure he'll get a gig at someone like Wakefield in a year or two. It could be another Mariano situation where we wonder why the hell we released him in the first place.

| The thing is if you aim to be a top six club say which we should be able to achieve the young players we've released wouldn't be good enough I still think there's to much of a gap between the 19s and first team so unfortunately players get released sometimes before they've reached there potential

| Surprised that we have let Ollett go, unless we are trying to free up cap space to accommodate some new pack signings. He is SL quality and much better than Esslemont, who he is joining at Keighley. However, he has a size problem and replicates similar incumbents. The emergence of George Lawler at the end of last season probably sealed his fate, as Lawler has still got some growing and filling out to do.
Not surprised at Hallett. A no show in the First Team last season for whatever reason. Expect Holker will be next.

| Why would we keep players just because they came through our youth structure? Sentiment has no place in building a team to compete. Ollet and Hallet were simply not good enough. If they were, why hasn't any other SL or Championship club come in for them?

I agree but is Ollett really any worse than Horne was towards the end of the season? I have no problem with releasing players who are not good enough but I do think they need to be given a chance first

It definitely could. Or it could be more of a Sam Latus or Scott Spaven situation. No disrespect to any of them. And in fairness, I don't think holding on to Mariano would have made a massive difference to us - though with hindsight we should have. You can't hold onto them forever, just in case. And how long do they hang about on the fringes - I'm sure most players want to play. Ollet turns 23 shortly, I think this is a sensible move for him - he should be a stand-out in Championship 1.
The problem is not that we don't hold on to enough Ollets, it is that we don't produce enough Taylors, and not that we don't give young players a chance but that so few are equipped to grab it.

Well said it is a pity that we can not turn back the clock when rovers and hull had hull lads that we were able to use in just about every position in the team HA them were the days I dont think I for one will ever see it again
