Is it possible to have a debate about RL Refs on here without silly or stupid comments from some people. Please try.

I have been living and working abroad for 3 years and try to keep up with watching as many RL games as possible on the TV or internet.

Later this year I will return to the UK to live and was thinking about picking up where I left off as a Rugby league supporter. Having played the game for nearly 20 years at a decent standard and supporting the game not just at my beloved Rovers but also at the KC , Boulevard and various other grounds I have always enjoyed the game.

It seems that nearly every match is awash with forward passes, poor decisions from referess and even video ref decisions that baffle me and others.

The Rovers v Hull match at the weekend topped all of the previous I have seen for poor decisions, obviously one decision stood out more than any other. The green try.

So I have decided that I will not waste my hard earned cash anymore on a game where the Referee or Video ref is not held accountable, is unable to be criticised by coaches for fear of reprisals and do not have the balls to publicly apologise for totally obvious mistakes.

So RL for me is a sport I will never pay to watch again. I will try to watch it using other means which I wont pay for.

When the sport becomes fairer and when people who make these ridiculous mistakes are made accountable for then I might reconsider my stance but until then ( then will never happen) I will take up interest in something else.

Please reply using polite and sensible language.

If you're not going to financially support the game on your return but intend to steal from it then what entitles you to n opinion?

I played the game for 20 years, I have paid to watch the game for more than 35 years, I have had SKY subscriptions.

Oh I can even add to that the fact I coached and helped develop some of your current players when they were kids.

You're criticising them, as many have. And Ganson was stood down for the last game yesterday. So the thread title is wrong on both counts. Next!

I read it, and laudable as all that is, it's in the past.

The most salient part of your post is that you intend to steal your viewed games when you return, expecting the rest of us to support the game today and in the future on your behalf.

Therefore, as you intend to contribute nothing you forfeit, your right to an opinion on the future of the game.

Actually, for a man with an ego the size of Ganson's the public censure is probably more painful than any other sanction.

It's a public forum. You don't get to decide who posts on a thread or what they post.

What do you expect them to do? He's been "brought to book" by the RFL, something you seemed to think wouldn't happen. When they consider further they may do more, but it was a pretty quick reaction

If I made such a ridiculous decision in my job I would be shown the door immediately.

Do you think he will? I would wager my house he does not.

A formal investigation should take place to address what can be done to prevent a similar situation from happening again.

I don't think there's much the RFL can do legislate for a brainfart a la Ganson's with the current set up. It's a money thing; we don't have a large enough pool of SL standard referees to draw from to double in the VR box or have two match ref's like in Oz. Without sufficient time and cash, the RFL will struggle to develop the requisite amount of top standard referees.

There are plenty of people out there that can read a rule book, understand the rules and make a 'correct' decision after watching some videos.

I'd suggest nothing less than a judge-led public enquiry, with the full range of legal sanctions available.

There'll be questions in the house when parliament returns after their recess. Watch Thursday's Question Time, Jonathan Dimbleby will be inundated.

And therein lies the exact reason I stated that I will not waste any of my hard earned cash on such a distrustful, inept and shambolicly organised sport.

Ganson and the head of officials have apologised. Ganson was dropped for the following days games.

I take it you have never heard of employment law then? Formal warnings etc...

Ganson made the mother off all cock-ups, far worse than any previously seen. At the end of the day, it was one error. Ganson did not cost you the game, rovers tiring defence had already surrendered the lead. Your full back decided to let the ball bounce close to his own line.

But to suggest the game is ruined by weekly refereeing errors is simply scapegoating the officials for the deficiencies of players and coaches. Far too often coaches and fans moan about a refereeing gaff . Yet rarely will you hear those who like to bleat going on about the amount of spilled ball, unforced errors, missed tackles and poor kicks.

Take it on the chin and move on, but on the basis you are turning your back on the game, I am sure you will simply carrying whining.

A bit more than 'stood down' for a game, thats for sure. How can anyone have confidence in him in his current role after the series of major gaff's he has been responsible for. While I knew he would not be sacked, I at least thought they would have suspended him for the remainder of the season from any 'officiating' role, such as video referee.
