Bright Sodje? You must be having a laugh. He was ok but nothing on the likes of Gary Clark and Steve Hubbard.

Unfortunately, I'm not quite old enough to have seen the great man play, a question I've always wondered about which some of the more, ahem, mature fans will be able to answer is; Did Sir Clive come to Rovers for a last pay day? I've always presumed that Hull had much the better out of him.

He was one of the few players who is regarded as a legend by both sets of supporters. I had the honour of meeting him a few times as a young 8 year old. Even when he moved across to the dark side he was still a great player and even with his dodgy knees he still did the business for you and got a coveted CC winners medal although i cannot think which game that was





So in short no he never went to yours just for a last payday.

This would be my team...tempted to put Jimmy Irvine on the bench though

Yeah, Bishop, good player, probably could have been a lot better but liked the odd sherbert.

I'd go along with a lot of that but I be tempted (out of the players I've seen play) to put Anthony Sullivan in for Clark, Paul Harkin in For Gordon Smith and stick him on the bench in place of Dave Watson, dropping Chris Burton for Ben Galea and maybe Mick Vella in for Bryan Nebling.

Vella & Galea didn't play for Rovers in the 80's or 90's....

Clive Sullivan certainly DIDN'T join Rovers for any kind of payday....

Anthony Sullivan played his best rugby at St's and only had one full season of top flight rugby at Craven Park, Clark despite his injuries after 1985 was the scorer of some fantastic tries, two in successive JPS Semi's stand out, David Laws scored the greatest try ever by a Rovers player at the Boulevard in Oct '83...

Dave Watson wasnt a bad larker. Was he a centre/standoff if I recall.

Watson was very exciting to watch, I think he also played a bit at full back for us to.

Yeah, you're right I can remember that.

He left to go and win the Challenge Cup with Sheffield Eagles in their famous 1998 victory over Wigan in a team that included one of my favourite players of the day Waisale Sovatabua.

Bit of a "rare bird" to put it mildly was "Winker Watson", had a couple of spells at 'Fax and Bratfud Northern before his day in the sun at Wembley if I recall....

David Bishop was a favorite of mine too, but just too unfit lol. Charlie Macalister will certainly remember him....


also Gavin Miller was top quality and i also liked Greg Austin, a real try scorer but he only played in the lower leagues for us before being released

The worst player i can think of was David Hoskins, the Aussie prop, utter tosh, he made Crossman look good lol

What was the name of that lad who played full back (no hair) I think he left us after the game we played at Featherstone when Stanley was carried shoulder high round the ground after the game. He'd (Stanley) just signed for Gateshead and although we lost you would never have thought it.

What did you guys think of Richard Slater? Real workhorse and a great player for us before leaving for Fev and the Hull KR. I know Rich and he has fond memories of his time at NCP, he recommended Ben Cockayne to sign up with you when you showed your interest in him.

And what a try that was.
If Hull fans think Tom Briscoe's against us was good then that was 20 times better.
Waltzed inside and out of all 3 of Hull's Kiwi Internationals without having a finger laid on him.
