| What has only just struck me is why release Esders but then just replace him with another back rower in Cook. If Esders can't get in as a backrower why is it going to be any different for Cook to force his way into a formiddable and competitive back row. Esders I think would also have been classified as one of home grown players. Anyway I am glad he has found another SL club and it could be said that his short spell at Rovers put him in the shop window and it wasn't all for nothing. He would not have had the same oppurtunity if he was at York or another NL club

I reckon with cook having more experience and the ability to play front row on occasion as a direct replacement for esders the squad is stonger, that's not meant as a slight on esders as the kid just didn't make the break through it happens sometimes with young kids

Cook is the better player by some distance. I would've liked us to keep Esders as he has potential, but the opportunity was there to bring in a better player.

| (my mistake Edit)
Cook plays both back and front row whereas Esders is much more a second row possibly a centre at a push.
Cook looked good when coached by Noble, he's carried on at a steady level since Brians departure however with a good coach he's got a good future ahead of him.
Good luck to Ezo he's got a good team down there and hope his future kicks off!

Both are the same age actually, though Esders is slightly older by 25 days

| Taylor is the replacement for Esders. Cook could be seen as the indirect replacement for Aizue, with Netherton and Lovegrove playing more in the front row nowadays.

| I'd have thought playing wise Cook was a level or two above Esders anyway from what ive seen of them.

Which i guess makes it a good bit of business for rovers to strengthen that area.

I couldn't agree more, alot of players have gone stale since McNamara took over and its coincidence they have gone backwards. I think this signing could pay dividends over the coming years.

| I hope Justin does not try and turn Cook into a prop. He has the potential to an exciting, wide running player like Newton. A lot of people were sceptical when Lovegrove played prop but it has payed off. He has tried with Netherton but he doesnt make an impact at prop. I feel another big front rower is needed especially now Makka is going.

| depends what you look for in a prop doesnt it, are you purely looking at Netherton in an attacking role (by your post you are) but try looking at the other 50% of his game and see he's a defender who you'll be lucky to find many better at doing the same job as he's out there to do.
Rugby League is about attacking AND defending yet players are purely judged on their attack (unless their defence is poor then its t'other way round).

| I don't judge players on just their attack and rate Netherton as an honest hard working player. What I meant was not all players can make an easy transition to another position. Lovegrove has done it successfully but I believe Netherton is out of position at prop.
