| Quote ="Keiththered"I believe Sandy started with a two year contract and then had it extended by one year. I agree three years does seem a long time for a first time head coach. To call it bonkers is a bit strong however. In what way have we gone backwards since Sandy left? Now is the time to give Chester our full support not use his appointment as an excuse to push Sandy's cause. Whatever you think, that time has gone and we need to look forward to the new era. Even when you you say you will get behind Chester you qualify your support with a negative. Approaching things in a negative way never brings success and only tends to bring about the result you anticipate. Let's hope the people inside the club do not have your negative attitude.'"
I don't see any improvement since sandy left and, IMO, there is less of a structure to our play, the attitude of the players is terrible (widnes), lack of apparent game plan and discipline issues. I'm not saying that sandy was the answer and deserved a new deal, but hailing Chester as the next big thing and giving him a 3 year deal seems a bit much. If the last 7 or so games were his audition for the job then I don't see how he's passed it. There has been no up turn in fortunes. Look at Powell at Cas or lowes at Bradford and see the impact they have had. In any business, companies have a rigorous interview process when recruiting for such an important position. Did we even hold any interviews with other potential candidates? I just hope that Chester wasn't appointed on sentiment alone coupled with the trend to appoint British coaches at the moment.

Attitude is easy to criticise by quoting one match. How about Saints and Wigan, not that i am saying those two games prove everything in the garden is rosy. I think discipline on the field has improve somewhat. Structure is a broad term and without you specifying what you mean it is difficult to comment. I see the decision to give him a three year contract has been downgraded from "bonkers" to "seems a bit much". As I said I would agree with the latter. I am sure the board took other things into consideration than purely results on the field when assessing his performance. Chester, from a distance, as we don't know the ins and outs of happenings within the club, seems to have dealt with off the field problems in a decisive way. Signings for next year show promise but I admit we won't know until the team takes to the field. In public companies I agree there is a rigorous interview process. Companies where the majority of shares are owned by one or a small number of people do not necessarily operate in the same way. Apparently by what the CEO said a number of people did show interest. The Board have decided to appoint Chester, it is their money and the person who pays the piper calls the tune. I am a minority shareholder but unfortunately not of sufficient wealth to be consulted on these matters. Their decision may prove to be a good one or it may not but I do not believe that it was made on sentiment or on the fad of appointing a British Coach. As the statement on the website states. "He is somebody who understands the club and the squad of players he will be working with but more importantly he is a young British coach who is ready for this position and responsibility" I think the board considering him ready for this position and responsibility is the the key issue in the appointment.

| I think there looking at stability appointing from within Chester knows the players hasn't been afraid to drop underperforming players I agree the team performances haven't been any better but it's early days bringing in another coach who doesn't know the club could set us back another year

| Good luck to chris, done ok so far with sandys squad, signings look ok so far,and shown a bit of character in not being afraid to leave players out. thought maybe 2 years would have been more appropriate but only time will tell.

5 points from 6 games. Okay-ish, although with no disrespect to them, 2 of those points were of course against London, whose record speaks for itself. Positive results against Saints and Wigan, plop vs Salford and Widnes.
Think he's the sensible choice. One more year than I expected, but hopefully that'll give him some time to make good medium term decisions.

| One year too long for me also. Was allways going to be his job. I don't think his results alone have cemented the role, but his abilities to deal with trouble/lack of form within the camp. Be interesting to see the response from the players for the last three games.

| If he is or is not the right man for the job I am not sure but who else is there? the only Aussies available are available as no one will give them a job & if they are not good enough there they are not good enough here. I wish Chris well & hope he is given time to come good. He has been coached by some good coaches & seen enough of a winning culture at Wigan to at least know what is expected & how to do it. If he proves a good choice get him tied up long term to bring much needed stability to our club.

This lot had the contenders as Chester, Poching (strong rumour he'll be joining the back room staff on hullkrfans), Gene, Cummins and Glenn Morrison:
www.totalrl.com/five-contenders- ... l-kr-boss/
For Hull KR I think Chester is (prospectively) the best fit, and he's served his apprenticeship. People calling for a proven coach - the difficulty is they're mostly in jobs. And tbf, any coach is limited to some degree by the available resources. Tony Smith when Hudds were struggling and Brian McDermott at London, show that even the best struggle without the right resourcing. Or, I suppose, alternatively that anybody competent can succeed at the richest clubs.

Can you let us know what applications from Antipodean coaches that applied. Did NH follow due process and what other coaches were interviewed for such an important role which could leave a lasting legacy for years to come.

| May have been given a 3 year deal but he won't last that long. I fear that this time next year we will be in the same position as our neighbours COULD have been in if Bradford had not been deducted 6 points. All my enthusiasm for next season with the promising signings has just taken a beating

| The fact Chris has been given a 3 year deal shows that they trust him far more than they ever did with Sandercock.
Its way too early. He's still living with his predecessors squad but tge signings for next year look a definate improvement in our back line.
He may not last for 3 years but at least give him a decent crack of tge whip before judging him.

How would I know if any one aplied for the job? what I do know is that I can't see any good coaches without a job down under or here. As for due process our chairman owns the club & bankrolls it he can apoint his grany if he wants. He obviously thinks he deserves a chance & my point is that he has come through the ranks at one of the best run clubs in the world (Wigan) wether he is up to it is to be seen but I will go with the clubs call untill proved diferent.

| Hopefully things will start off better next year when Chester has the back line players in place who can defend and not make mistakes. I think 3 years is far too long for an inexperienced coach . Fortunately NH is too shrewd a business man to employ his granny , the club belongs to the fans at the end of the day and will be still in existence for years to come.

| Do we know who his No2 will be? I would offer it to Stanley, who has done a decent job at Gateshead coping extremely well with the complexities of being a feeder club and dual registrations coupled with his other duties at Rovers. He has worked wonders with Beharrel and a few others, and I have to say this, Stan seems destined to be part of Rovers future.
Perhaps there is a strong case to promote Pete Grayburn, who is doing a sterling job with the u19s in what is a very strong competition. The club might not want to lose him in that area though, it is imperative Rovers u19s start to compete regularly in the play-offs and Pete has just about secured that aim, so continuity might be a stumbling block.
I wouldn't want Shaun Briscoe of Dave Hodgson to be leapfrogged into the role although they do have the qualities and experience to take on the role. I would prefer a seamless move, a pathway from boot room to head coach (Alah Liverpool with Shanks, Paisley et al), and Stan fits that profile.
