I'll take your word for it, but I've never had a decent burger from a curry shop.
Best I've ever had was from aroad side shack in Big Sur proper chopped steak done medium rare. Epic.

| Stop with the burgers. All I can hear is the siren-song of a Burger King calling. A homemade healthy lean burger is not going to do.

Road stop cafes are the best place to get them.
Basically a toasted bread roll with proper minced beef bound together with just egg, fried onion with a small amount of vinigar, tomato, lettuce and beetroot for the basic burger, but optional extras include fried egg, bacon, cheese and pineapple.
I generally have a 'works burger' - which is one with everything.

| Never in for Countdown, don't mind that Nick chap.
Only Connect is the best quiz.
Must stop watching telly after a few glasses, "The Mystery Of Edwin Drood" remains a mystery to me.
Quite liked "Earthflight", seen me sen on it a couple of times, just not right without Attenborough OM, CH, CVO, CBE, FRS, FZS, FSA doing the story though.

Can't see the attraction of beetroot on burgers, aphrodisiac or not. Like beetroot crisps though.

I don't understand the concept of a hamburger without beetroot, and fried onion with vinigar. Without those, it's just a rissole on a bun.
The funny thing about McDonalds is that Aussies hate their 'pickles', and in the early years they wouldn't serve them without the pickles, so it became a national sport to flick pickles at the windows of McDonalds, and even now when you can ask for no pickles, many people just get them to flick at the windows.

Oven chips too. Less than 5% fat and everything. As an accountant, I don't see the payback on spending hours and £££s on a meal you eat in 15 minutes. I am a bit posh though. For example, I love jelly sweets, but definitely prefer Maynards Wine Gums and M&S soft fruit gums to Tesco ones.

| Beetroot crisps: buy raw beetroot, slice them very thin with a mandolin (awaiting silly comments on that!) or speed peeler, deep fry in oil 'til done, they crisp up more whilst cooling, sprinkle with Maldon Salt......voila.
Wondering if Sandra T has got one of those 'smoke guns' demonstrated by the lovely James Martin last Saturday on TV, would save a lot of trouble with the smoke detector when home smoking,

Don't do jelly, Gelatin.
There's a couple of things that I can't substitute for cheaper versions, ketchup & beans have got to be Heinz & crumpets have got to be Warbies. Not fussed when it comes to wine, it can't be over £6 though. It used to be a £5 rule but Sandra made me feel bad.
