| Been pretty disappointing at Saints, but if the price was right then fair enough. In this market value outside of gambles is rare.

| I would imagine Shenton and Webster are currently on fairly similar deals. If we sign Shenton he can't command anywhere near what he did when Saints first signed him so as well as being a fairly young english centre, he frees up a quota spot and saves money on the cap.
Good move for me.

| Wouldn't he also earn us extra to spend on the cap? Something they (the RFL) put out there whereby a team that has youngsters that feature in the England set-up are rewarded with extra allowance on the cap.

If Saints make up the difference on the 2013 part of his deal, or at least close to it, I agree with the above.
With some rejigging, he could even be an indirect replacement for McDonnell. The non-fed spot is probably more use than than the quota one. Although tbh neither are what they once were, with the weakness of the pound.

I'm not sure being able to spend extra on the cap is a priority with crowds down and the economy flatlining. He wasn't in the last England squad (I think). And tbh, the way that system was introduced, it just seemed to be giving the thinnest veneer of justification for a S.Tomkins-exemption for Wigan. It didn't even look workable on paper, from the few details that emerged.

| Shenton will not hold back Salter or Heil in any way shape or form, they are both young and their regular rugby won't be for at least another 2 to 3 years which is probably about when Shenton's deal would run out if he came here.
The deal however would have to be attractive enough to make him want to travel to Hull everyday rather than a short trip to Cas. I wouldn't go getting in to a bidding war for him with any other clubs, I'd say make him an offer and if he doesn't want it find someone else. Yes a very good player on his day but certainly on recent performances not worth anywhere near his current salary.

Back on topic, I think Shenton would be a decent signing for KR.

I'd heard he still lives in cas, could be wrong mind but if he does, signing for us will most probably be purely down to who offers more us or cas can't see the travelling being a big issue from cas tbh

| Can your halves pass to the right? If so then he will be a great signing for you.
Our young halves eventually learned to pass to the right towards the back end of last season and Shenny started to show us what he was made of in attack (we already knew he was good defensively). However, this season things have gone backwards for him with another halfback pairing that doesn't seem to be working and once again cannot pass to the right.
I'm surprised we are letting him go but, having said that, we are getting a new coach next season so perhaps I should be surprised at nothing.
He needs to get his elbow sorted out though. The strapping he wears on it is substantial, which suggests it may be causing him problems.

You don't know who is after him and even if only two clubs are after him that doesn't mean he isn't any good. We've no idea why he has been given permission to talk to other clubs. We suspect it is because Nathan Brown has ideas of his own about the shape of our team next season. But just because one coach doesn't think he's going to fit into his plans is no reflection on Shenton. Different coaches have different ideas. Shenton has been at Saints at a time of major upheaval. That can't have been easy for him. Also, he has recently had a child and his family is back in Yorkshire. He is the only one at Saints now who travels across from Yorkshire so that alone must be difficult for him. There could be any number of reasons why he is looking elsewhere, none of which is necessarily a comment upon his ability.

| Shenton would be an excellent signing for most SL clubs, especially as his next deal won't be anywhere near the reported 6 figure sum he's on at Saints.

| Shenton still has a year on his deal. If he is on the reported 100k+ Then for somebody to sign him on a 2 year deal then it has to be worth well in excess of 50k or Shenton will just see out his St Helens contract. That's unless he is going to get a signing on fee or a pay off?

| Shenton wouldn't walk away from a deal if the first year didn't match his current deal IMO, he'd still gain interest next season and still be able to get around 70-80k a year at most SL clubs.
Cas-Saints or Cas-Hull is a matter of say 20-30mins difference I'd estimate so travel shouldn't really be his reason for leaving Saints, if it is then the offer from Cas would be a no brainer. And who knows, if Brown takes a couple of Hudds players with him to Saints it may be that Anderson fancies his chances in the centres at the Giants!
A long way to go in this I'd imagine and his agent won't be settling for a bum deal.

I think Saints could pay him off outside the cap - a bit like Wire did with Hicks to get Joel Monaghan. If he thinks it is better to agree a move midway through a second mediocre season, rather than potentially at the end of a third, he might be okay with it. On the other hand, his and Saints' form could easily pick up so sitting tight ain't a bad idea either. Unless he's not happy, which his agent denies, he's in a strong position.
Looking at the players supposedly on the centre-3/4 roundabout, Shenton offers different but neither [iunequivocally[/i better or worse than Jake Webster, Jordan Turner or Joe Arundle. It just depends what you want - experience or potential, quality or value, recent form and fitness or record over a number of years.

| Anyone that thinks they are going to get him on the cheap are deluded.
Why would he walk away from a £120k deal for £50k.
His next deal will still be about £80- 100k a year, And Saints will have to offer to cover some of the difference,
His next deal is also VERY likely to be at Cas, He wants to return.
