We did but I think had we played almost anyone else we would have been on the back foot a lot more. Thing is we are a team that if we can get on the front foot we'll tear almost anyone apart, but against the better teams we struggle to get this platform. It was apparent that in the 1st half it could have gone either way but as you tired and line speed dropped off we just opened up and then looked dangerous.

I agree, if we can't retain Lunt (is he still on paternity leave)? and when Burke goes back to Wigan we will be more desperate than we are now.

I'd also like to think we would strengthen at FB, i still don't see a long term solution in any of the current squad.

Back to Hall, what was he doing in the 2nd half, when he broke through if would have gone straight for the line or stepped to the right he would have scored easily.

I have no idea, it was bloody funny though. He did everything not to score, ran the wrong way, tried to get the ref to tackle him, at one point I thought he was just going to run straight into the post.

It was indeed a career summary performance from him, a few great breaks and posing a threat combined with things a seven year old wouldn't do. When Cockayne took the pass that resulted in his break for Kelly's try it was almost as though he looked ahead, thought "It's only Hally, I'll just run past him". So he did.

I've come to the conclusion that Hall is all natural talent and instinct and nobody's ever got him to understand that play RL at this level also requires knowledge of how the game works and the ability to concentrate for the full game.

It was a bit Sandercockesque, I'll admit that.



As for us playing Wakey at the wrong time early on I think it was more them playing us at the right time.

Really though Webster would make a top coach, but some of the things he said, signings and team selection have been really poor, maybe spent too much time with Agar.

Pleased to get what was a convincing win in the end. Can only play what's in front of us, although we will need to improve again to test Wigan next week.

Thought we looked shaky first half, probably a lack of confidence. Against a better side we wouldn't have been leading at the break IMO which then gave us the impetus to put them to the sword. Some of the tries were great to watch, and despite the fact Wakey's defence is awful we really needed that win and it gives us something to build on.

Sio is never a centre in attack or especially defence. Would rather play Horne there. Looked good at full back, wouldn't mind seeing him there again.
Dixon mixed bag as always, hope he fulfills his potential because Craig Hall is an example of what happens if you don't learn to use your brain and cut the mistakes.
Really impressed with Boudebza. Hopefully as he gains confidence he can get out of dummy half more.
Finally Campese is key to our season. With him it can be a good one, without him were probably back at Odsal come September.

On a more serious note regarding last nights game.

Now that I've moved to the calmer sanctuary of the North Stand from The East, I get to see our defensive alignments better from behind or in front dependent on the half from a central high position. About 7 times last night I was screaming out at our defensive imbalance when Wakey had a play the ball in a central position. Twice they had a 6 on 3 overlap and Campese and Mantellato made all or nothing reads. When they had a 6 on 4 on the openside in the first half Hall threw the ball behind Riley into touch with an attempted cut out pass. On 2 occasions the Wakefield backs cut back inside into traffic when it was easier to go wide.

Repeat same against Wigan next week and it's likely 5 out of 7 such indiscretions will be converted into tries.

Ken Sio at fullback. His defensive organisation was not in evidence and as a softly spoken guy he will need an amplifier and a megaphone to get any related instructions heard by the team.

Boudebza had a great game, but we are missing Lunt's authority at marker.
